Get started with service items
Create a service item for work or another nonphysical service that your company buys, sells, or both. Its purchasing and sales configuration determines where the service can be selected and which income, expense, tax, price, and cost information QuickStart uses; service items do not track inventory quantities.
Turn on the configurations that apply:
- Turn on Item is purchasable to use the service on purchase transactions. You can enter a preferred vendor, the vendor’s item identifier, a purchase description, and a cost.
- Turn on Item is sellable to use the service on sales transactions and enter a price.
- Select Can be fulfilled or received if the service must be processed through item receipts or item fulfillments before billing.
Review the default accounts before creating the service. A purchasable service uses an expense account and a sellable service uses a revenue account.
Service items do not track inventory quantities and do not have location configurations.
