Create a service item

Create a service item to use work or another nonphysical service on purchase or sales transactions. Open Menu > Products and services > Items.

Before you begin

You need permission to create service items.

Decide whether the service is purchasable, sellable, or both. Prepare the service name and a unique service ID. If the service is purchasable, you can select an existing vendor or create one directly from the Preferred vendor field.

Create a service item

  1. Open Menu > Products and services > Items.
  2. Select Create item.
  3. Select Service.
  4. Enter the service Name and unique Service ID.
  5. Optionally enter a Barcode, General description, or image.
  6. To use the service on purchase transactions, turn on Item is purchasable and enter the purchasing details that apply. Enter Cost when applicable.
  7. To use the service on sales transactions, turn on Item is sellable and enter the Price that applies.
  8. Select Can be fulfilled or received when the service must be processed through item receipts and item fulfillments.
  9. Review the Revenue account and Expense account enabled by the selected configurations.
  10. Select Create.

QuickStart creates the service and opens its record. The service can be selected only in workflows allowed by its active configurations.
