Create a recurring journal entry now

Use Create now on a recurring journal entry when you need its next journal before the scheduled Next date. QuickStart creates the journal immediately from the template and lists it on the recurring entry’s Created journal entries tab without waiting for the normal schedule.

To create a recurring journal entry now:

The Next date field will automatically update based on the selected frequency and start date of the recurring journal entry, regardless of the transaction date you select when creating now. For example, say your recurring journal entry has a weekly frequency, a start date of 12/9/2025, and a next date of 12/23/2025. After selecting Create now from the More actions menu, you change the transaction date from 12/23/2025 to 1/17/2025. After saving as draft or submitting the journal entry, the next date on the recurring journal entry will change to 12/30/2025 based on the weekly frequency and the start date, rather than the new transaction date.

All journal entries created using Create now appear in the Created journal entries tab on the corresponding recurring journal entry.

Before you begin

You need permission to manage recurring journal entries. The template must be active and its lines must still balance.

  1. Open Menu.

  2. Under Accounting, select Journal, and then select Recurring journal entries.

  3. Open the recurring journal entry that you want to create a journal entry from.

  4. Select More actions, then select Create now. Alternatively, you can do this directly from the Recurring journal entries list page by selecting Create now from the Actions menu.

  5. The fields are populated with the data from the recurring journal entry. You can edit all the fields as needed.

  6. Select Submit to submit the journal entry for approval. If the Journal entry approval process is disabled or auto approval is set up, submitting the journal entry immediately posts it to the general ledger.

You can also select Save as draft. A draft can be edited before it is submitted for approval or posted.

    Note:

Even if the recurring journal entry you’re creating now from has the Create journal entries as draft box checked, selecting Submit won’t automatically save it as a draft. If you don’t want to submit the journal entry for approval or post it to the general ledger, select Save as draft.
