Get new backup codes
Generate a replacement set of backup codes from My preferences > Security and authentication > Two-factor authentication (2FA). Each backup code can be used one time when you cannot access your authenticator app. Generating a new set makes every code in the previous set invalid.
Before you begin
- 2FA must already be configured for your user.
- Have either the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app or an unused 8-digit backup code available.
- Be ready to store the new codes in a secure location, such as a password manager or secure physical storage.
Steps
- In the global navigation, select your name or initials, and then select My preferences.
- In Categories, select Security and authentication > Two-factor authentication (2FA).
- In the Get new backup codes section, select Get new backup codes.
-
In step 1 of the dialog, enter the current Verification code from your authenticator app.
If you cannot access the app, select Use backup code and enter an unused backup code instead.
- Select Next.
- In step 2, securely store the displayed codes. You can select Copy codes to copy them.
- Select Done.
Result
The new backup codes are ready to use, and all backup codes from the previous set are invalid.
