Delete a credit memo

Delete a credit memo when an eligible transaction was created in error and must be removed rather than voided. The action is available from the credit memo or the Credit memos list only for a draft, open, or voided credit memo with no related transactions. Deletion is permanent, but the source transaction can be processed again.

Important: The delete action is irreversible. You cannot recover a deleted transaction.

Before you begin

You need the Administrator or Full business access profile. The credit memo must have no related transactions and must be in draft, open, or voided status.

To delete a credit memo:

  1. On any page containing the credit memo, select the credit memo number to open the transaction in view mode.

  2. From the More actions list, select Delete.

Alternatively, you can delete the credit memo directly from the Credit memos list page. To do this, find the transaction you want to delete. Then, under the Actions column, select Delete.

  3. On the confirmation dialog, select Delete credit memo.

To maintain data security, deleting credit memos in certain statuses is restricted. Credit memos without related transactions and in draft, open, or voided statuses can be deleted only by users with the following access profiles:

The credit memo you delete has no impact on related links, which lets you reprocess transactions. For example, you delete a credit memo that was created from a return authorization. You can reprocess the transaction by creating another credit memo from the return authorization again.
