Customer credits and refunds

After returned inventory is received, create a credit memo for the accepted value of the return. The customer can apply the credit memo to an open or future invoice, or you can use the available credit to create a customer refund.

The usual sequence is:

  1. Create an item receipt for physically returned items.
  2. Create a credit memo from a return authorization.
  3. Leave the credit memo available for invoices or create a customer refund.

Do not create a separate refund directly from the return authorization when the returned value must first be recorded as customer credit.
