Updating the Field Service Management Configuration File

Update the Field Service Management (FSM) configuration file to change FSM settings while retaining the previous configuration for reference.

Important:

Test each configuration change in a sandbox account before applying the change to your production account. Always run an end-to-end test of your field service processes after making a change.

To update the configuration file:

  1. Go to Field Service > Administration > Configuration.

  2. The Field Service Configuration page opens the active configuration file.

    In the Name field, enter a unique, identifiable file name, such as 2026.07.1 20260815 AP.

    You should start the file name with the current product version. Follow the version with the date in YYYYMMDD format and your initials. You can also include a description of the changes.

    Tip:

    Record the original name of the active configuration file. You need the name when you inactivate the file.

  3. Check the Inactive box to keep the new configuration file inactive while you edit it.

  4. From the Save list, select Save As.

  5. Click List in the upper-right corner to open the Field Service Configuration list.

  6. On the Field Service Configuration List page, check the Show Inactives box.

  7. Find the file you created and click Edit in the same row. In the Editor text area, make the required configuration changes.

    Tip:

    You can copy the configuration and edit it in an application such as Visual Studio Code. An external editor can help validate the code structure.

  8. If you edit the configuration in an external editor, paste the updated configuration into the Editor text area.

  9. From the Save As list, select Save. The Field Service Configuration List page opens.

  10. On the Field Service Configuration List page, find the new configuration file and clear its Inactive box.

  11. Find the previous active configuration file and check its Inactive box.

  12. Click Submit.

  13. Complete an end-to-end test of your field service processes.

The new configuration file is active, and the previous configuration file remains available as an inactive file.
