Registering and Integrating Your Carrier Accounts

To set up shipping for the app, you must create a ShipEngine account through the NetSuite UI. NetSuite integrates with ShipEngine to connect with your shipping services from your carriers. As a third-party provider of shipping solutions, ShipEngine enables you to connect services from multiple carriers. For more information, see NetSuite Ship Central FAQs or NetSuite ShipEngine Account Help Resources.

ShipEngine accounts created outside of NetSuite cannot be integrated through Ship Central. Follow the instructions in this topic to register for a ShipEngine account, connect your carriers, and enable the Ship Central plug-in. After you complete the setup, you can manage your shipping integration and services at any time.

Important:

Before you register, make sure that your company name does not exceed 50 characters, ShipEngine’s limit for company names. To view your company name, see Enter Basic Company Information.

If you want to set up Ship Central shipping on a NetSuite sandbox account, create a separate ShipEngine account for it. Follow or repeat the same registration and integration procedures within your NetSuite sandbox account. Make sure that you use a unique email address that is different from the one on your NetSuite production account. You must re-register your NetSuite sandbox account in case you refresh it without integrating your NetSuite production account with ShipEngine.

To register and integrate your shipping services:

  1. Using the Ship Central Manager role, go to Ship Central Setup > ShipEngine Integration > Manage Integration & Carriers.

  2. On the Encryption Key Entry page, do the following:

    Tip:

This page does not appear if you have already entered an encryption key. You can skip this step.

    1. In the Encryption Key field, enter a key that you want to use to encrypt your ShipEngine API key and account ID.

An encryption key must have 16 characters. You can include a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.

    2. Click Save.

  3. On the Manage ShipEngine Integration page, click Create ShipEngine Account.

A message appears at the top of the page to confirm your newly created ShipEngine account.

ShipEngine generates your shipping API key, which is automatically encrypted and saved in your NetSuite account. If you need to make changes to the encryption key or shipping API key, see Managing Your Shipping Integration.

  4. To add your carrier accounts to ShipEngine, do the following:

    1. On the Manage ShipEngine Integration page, click Add Carriers.

You are redirected to the ShipEngine site to get started and connect your carrier accounts.

    2. Add each carrier account that you want to use for NetSuite Ship Central. For instructions, see NetSuite ShipEngine Account Help Resources.

    3. On the Manage ShipEngine Integration page, click Sync & Update Carriers.

Each carrier that you add appears in the Carriers list along with the shipping services associated with it.

  5. After you add and connect your carriers, follow these steps to enable the NetSuite Ship Central plug-in:

    1. Using the Administrator role, go to Customization > Plug-ins > Manage Plug-ins.

    2. On the Manage Plug-in Implementation page, check the PackShip – Shipping Plugin box.

    3. Click Save.

  6. To display your ShipEngine account ID, do the following:

    1. Go to Setup > Custom > Carrier Integration Details.

    2. On the Carrier Integration Details page, click Get ShipEngine Account ID.

Your account ID appears in the ShipEngine Account ID field. Ship Central uses this data during shipment processing only.

After you integrate your carrier accounts and enable the plug-in, you can create your shipping items. For instructions, see Creating Shipping Items for your Shipping Services.

Managing Your Shipping Integration

After your initial set up, you can perform tasks to manage your existing ShipEngine integration. You can change the API key or re-encrypt the existing one. You can also sync or resync the default logo that you upload in your ShipEngine account. For the following purposes, resync your carriers:

  • To update or remove shipping services from existing carriers

  • To set up and use the shipping services of a new carrier

  • To update shipping services after you set the International Shipping or Third-party Billing preferences

For more information, see Setting Shipping Preferences.

To manage your existing shipping integration:

  1. Using the Ship Central Manager role, go to Ship Central Setup > ShipEngine Integration > Manage Integration & Carriers.

  2. On the Manage ShipEngine Integration page, click the button that corresponds to the task you want to perform:

    • Add Carriers – Enables you to connect additional carrier accounts to your ShipEngine account.

    • Sync & Update Carriers – Syncs your integrated carrier accounts from ShipEngine with NetSuite.

Updates to carriers apply to new and existing shipments that you are processing on your device.

If shipping services are updated or removed, make sure that you perform the necessary changes to the associated shipping services. For more information, see Creating Shipping Items for your Shipping Services.

    • Sync Default Logo – Obtains the path for your default company logo.

      Note:

You must choose a default logo in your ShipEngine account. To set up, you can upload a company logo in JPG or PNG format. The logo cannot exceed the maximum file size of 512 KB and maximum logo size of 500px. To view ShipEngine’s guidelines on company logos, see NetSuite ShipEngine Account Help Resources.

If you enable the Print Default Logo on Shipping Labels preference, you can print your logo on a shipping label. For more information, see Setting Shipping Preferences.

    • Replace API Key – Automatically obtains the shipping API key from ShipEngine and associates it with your NetSuite account.

After the update, the new shipping API key is used to authenticate new shipping sessions on the app.

    • Re-encrypt API Key – Opens the Encryption Key Entry page. Make sure you enter a 16-character string for the new encryption key.

After you change the encryption key, NetSuite uses it to automatically re-encrypt the ShipEngine API key associated with your account.
