Editing a Manufacturing Operation Task

For any work order with a status of Pending Build, you can make changes to operation tasks on the order. For example, due to specifications particular to one order, you may need to change information defaulted on tasks from the routing template.

After work is logged against the order and the status is In Process, you can no longer edit the operation tasks.

On individual task records, you can view the following:

Task dependencies are assigned based on the numeric order of the operation sequence and are not editable.

To edit operation tasks:

  1. Go to Transactions > Manufacturing > Manufacturing Operations Tasks.

  2. Click Edit next to the operation you want to modify.

  3. Make changes, as required.

The following table describes the Manufacturing Operations Tasks fields:

Alternatively, you can click the field name to open Field Level Help.

    Field

    Description

    Primary Information

    Operation Name

    The name of the operation.

    Operation Sequence

Operation Sequence represents when the assembly task is scheduled to begin. For example, bicycle assembly setup could be sequence 1.

    Work Order

The work order related to this operation task.

    Insert Before

Identifies the next step in the sequence.

    Status

The operation sequence status. For example, Not Started, Started, Completed.

    Comments

Additional comments that are intended to accompany this operation task. For example, "use Shimano spokes when Bontrager spokes are not available."

    Estimated Hours

NetSuite calculates estimated hours as the expected time to complete a task based on total setup time plus quantity times run rate.

    Operation Overview

    Actual Time

The time in hours it took to complete this task.

    Remaining Hours

To calculate Remaining Time before First Completion:

    • Setup time is considered to be part of remaining time only before first completion.

    • The system uses the remaining quantity and multiplies it by the Run Time amount and then adds Setup Time.

To calculate Remaining Time after First Completion:

    • After the first completion is complete, setup time is not included in Remaining Time amount.

    • The system uses the remaining quantity and then multiplies it by the Run Time amount.

    Input Quantity

The number of items entered or created during this task.

    Completed Quantity

The total number of items created during this task.

    Setup Time

Enter the operation setup time in minutes required to prepare for this step in the sequence. For example, the time required to warm up a molding machine.

    Run Rate

Enter the operation run rate in minutes. This is the amount of time required to complete a run and produce one unit.

    Operation Schedule

    Start Date

The date you expect to begin assembly production. This field defaults to today's date.

    • Demand Planning bases component demand on the production start date.

    • Manufacturing Routing production start date depends on whether NetSuite uses forward or backward scheduling to calculate production requirements.

    End Date

The date you expect to complete assembly production. This field defaults to today's date plus lead time.

    Auto-Calculate Lag

Check this box if you want NetSuite to calculate lag times for operation tasks.

    Note:

When you modify task settings, labor and machine scheduling reflects calculations based on the new entries after you save the task changes.

  4. Click Save.

You can also modify tasks from the work order. Go to Transactions > Manufacturing > Enter Work Orders > List. Click Edit next to the work order to be edited. Click the Operations subtab to view a list of operation tasks.
