Validate Position Headcount on Position-Based Requisitions

Recruiters can use the Create Requisition action to create job requisitions using positions and validate available position headcount before proceeding. The validation applies when the requisition is created using a position or an existing requisition associated with a position, helping ensure that requisition openings align with available position headcount.

Recruiters can use this feature to:

  • In the How to start step, confirm that the selected position has at least one available headcount, regardless of the defaulted number of openings.
  • In the Basic info step, validate available headcount against the selected number of openings.
  • Prevent requisition creation when a position doesn't allow overlap and lacks sufficient available headcount.
  • Display a warning, while allowing the recruiter to continue, when a position allows overlap.

Try it out

  • Use the Create Requisition action, then create a requisition using a position or using an existing requisition associated with a position.
  • In the How to start step, select the position. The validation confirms that the position has at least one available headcount, regardless of the defaulted number of openings.
  • In Basic info step, enter or review the number of openings. The validation checks whether the position has enough available headcount for that number.
  • If the position has insufficient available headcount, respond to the displayed warning or error before continuing or submitting the requisition.

Business benefit: This feature helps prevent requisitions from being created for positions that don't have available headcount.

Steps to enable and configure

  1. Confirm that your organization uses the Redwood requisition experience. Don't enable the profile option if your organization still uses the Responsive UI for requisitions, because the validation isn't handled there and the validation can still affect requisitions created through that experience.
  2. Go to Setup and Maintenance > Tasks > Search > Manage Enterprise HCM Information.
  3. In the Position Incumbent Validation section, enable Apply Incumbent Validation.
  4. Go to Setup and Maintenance > Tasks > Search > Manage Administrator Profile Values.
  5. Set the site-level value of Apply Requisition Position Incumbent Validation (ORA_IRC_REQ_POS_INCUMBENT_VAL) to Y.
  6. Optional: Configure the Days in Future for Requisition Position Headcount Validation (ORA_IRC_REQ_POS_HEADCOUNT_FUTURE_DAYS) profile option to specify the number of days after a requisition is created to use as the effective date for retrieving position and assignment headcount. The default is 30 days.
