Open Shift Conflict Handling

When a worker requests part of an open shift and a blocking time-based conflict is at the start or end of the shift, the Request partial shift page shows the claimable time range.

  • The page identifies and displays the blocking conflicts. These include scheduled shifts, approved and pending absences, absence bids, and organization calendar events.
  • The Available Shifts calendar shows open shifts that you can claim fully or partially. It excludes shifts that are fully overlapped, have blocking conflicts at both ends, or occur on a day with a duration-based absence.
  • When the worker's schedule changes, the calendar reevaluates eligibility so previously excluded shifts can appear when they become claimable.

This enhancement helps organizations improve open-shift coverage by reducing unnecessary blocking of available work time. It also reduces manual schedule coordination by showing workers only shifts they can act on.

Steps to enable and configure

Tips and considerations

  • Open shifts can be claimed only from the start or end, not from the middle.
  • Non-time-based conflicts, such as skill and scheduling-rule conflicts, continue to block the action.
