Infer UOM from Alternate Item Barcode in Additional Screens
In your warehouse, you may be dealing with the same item in different UOMs, belonging to the same UOM class. The ability to transact an item in several UOMs helps to simplify transactions. In earlier releases, we have enhanced our system to utilize the “UOM” and “quantity per UOM” fields on the item barcode entity allowing you to determine the SKU by inferring the UOM from the item barcode scanned. Having the “quantity per UOM” auto-populated at scanning allows you to gain efficiency when managing products with multiple UOMs.
In 24A, we have expanded our system to populate the associated pack/case quantity while scanning LPNs for cases/packs when performing RF Receiving, RF Create LPN, RF Cycle Count, and Item Barcode modules. We have also extended infer UOM from the item barcode in the RF Pick Cart transaction.
NEW COLUMN "ASSOCIATE PACK/CASE QTY" AVAILABLE IN THE ITEM BARCODE ENTITY
To capture the associated inventory pack_qty on scanning the case_qty and vice versa, we have now introduced a new “associated_pack_case_qty” column to the item barcode entity. This helps you in defining and allocating appropriate package hierarchy for a both Pack/Case barcode.
- The new Associated Pack/Case Qty column is available on the Item Barcode UI and can be edited in the create, edit, and copy pane. You must explicitly add the column to display on the data grid.
- A new associated_pack_case_qty column is available in the Item Barcode Interface Entity. You can pass this value in the Stage UI for the item barcode interface entity. This new field supports all the formats for the item barcode interface.
NOTE: The system populates the Associated Pack/Case Qty as '0' if the scanned item barcode is in Units or other than item Case/Pack UOM, or when UOM is Cases and associated_pack_case_qty is > Qty Per UOM, or when UOM is Cases and Qty per UOM is not an integral multiple of associated_pack_case_qty, or when UOM is Packs and associated_pack_case_qty is not an integral multiple of Qty Per UOM.
IMPROVEMENTS TO RF CREATE LPN, RF RECEIVING, AND RF CYCLE COUNT
When you scan an inventory of Pack/Case qty, for example, in an RF Create LPN transaction, the system is now enhanced to pick the associated pack/case qty from the scanned barcode. That is, when you scan the LPN of Cases and if the item barcode has an underlying pack_qty associated with the Cases, then the system now can populate the underlying pack_qty linked to the scanned item barcode depending upon the UOM configured.
NOTE: This functional enhancement is applicable for RF Receiving (RF Receive by Shipment & RF Receive by Load) and RF Cycle Count – Immediate and Deferred Mode.
Let's say you perform an RF Create LPN transaction with the following item barcode configured:
LPN | Vendor Barcode | UOM | Pack/Case Qty | Associated Pack/Case Qty |
---|---|---|---|---|
Coke | Coke6 | Cases | 6 | 0 |
Coke | Coke12 | Cases | 12 | 4 |
NOTE: This functionality is applicable in both SKU Scan and SKU Qty mode and is also implemented in RF Create LPN from Active.
In previous releases, when performing RF Create LPN, on item barcode (Coke6), the system created the inventory records with Case quantity as 6 and Pack quantity as 0.
Now in 24A, on scanning the item barcode (Coke12) and if the item barcode consists of the underlying pack_qty associated with the Case_qty, the system creates the inventory record with Case_qty as 12 and Pack _qty as 4.
NOTE: On performing RF Create LPN transaction, if the scanned item Barcode is in Units or other than item Case/Pack UOM, then the system populates the Associated Pack/Case Qty to '0'. This is applicable for RF Create LPN from Active.
Similarly, on scanning the item barcode of Pack_qty, if the underlying inventory has Case_qty associated with the pack_qty, the system populates the Case_qty.
INFER UOM FROM ITEM BARCODE DURING CYCLE COUNT - DEFERRED MODE
In addition to supporting cycle count in immediate mode, WMS now allows you to infer UOM from alternate item barcode scanned during Cycle Count in Deferred mode. This ensures a faster and accurate cycle counting process, thereby increasing warehouse efficiency and accuracy.
You can now count inventories from reserve or active locations in terms of Case_UOM and Pack_UOM by scanning the item barcode.
- On scanning the barcode corresponding to a record in the item barcode entity, the system picks the UOM and Qty per UOM, and defaults the value in the quantity per UoM field.
- You can also infer UOM from item barcode via RF Cycle Counting in SKU scan for Deferred mode.
NOTE: On scanning each SKU in SKU Scan Mode, the system increments the qty of the count by 1 UOM of the item barcode. If the SKU scanned is in quantity entry mode, the UOM switches as per the UOM from item barcode.
- WMS Activity & IHTs with REF field values(Ref_Code_13, Ref_Value_13, Ref_Code_14, and Ref_Value_14) are updated as per the counted UOMs.
IMPROVEMENTS IN CYCLE COUNT DEFERRED MODE - INFER UOM AND NON-INFER UOM
Infer UOM: On cycle counting an LPN having a different Pack/case qty other than what is scanned from the item barcode, the system updates the inventory with inferred barcode Pack/Case qty. On approval, the CC Adjustment details are updated with counted inventory Pack/Case qty on inferring UOM from item Barcode.
Non-Infer UOM: On cycle counting an LPN having a different Pack/case qty other than item master, then the system updates with inventory pack/case qty. On approval, inventory Pack/Case Qty is retained by not fetching from the Item master.
NOTE: A warning message “Discrepancy in Inventory Case/Pack Qty” is displayed in the CC Adjustment header and detail UI on counting inventory with different Case/Pack Qty or when Pack Qty, Case Qty or both Case/Pack Qty is changed for the counted inventory. Also, the CC stays pending status if there are discrepancies in Inventory Case/Pack Qty, even when there are no qty discrepancies. In such cases, you are still allowed to approve the count with the warning, and on approval, the scanned Case/Pack qty is updated on the Counted inventory.
ERROR CONDITIONS MANAGED IN DEFERRED MODE
- When an LPN is partially or fully allocated in Cases/Packs is counted with an item barcode having a different Case/Pack Qty (other than inventory Case/Pack Qty) and is subjected to approval via CC Adjustment UI, the system throws error message " Cannot approve Adjustment Record for the Location, LPN is in allocated status cannot update Case/Pack Qty" and record moves to pending status even though there is no qty discrepancy.
- On cycle counting Pack/Case qty for active location is different than Item Master std_pack qty, then the system displays an error message for both Immediate and Deferred Mode, “Cannot proceed, Pack/Case Qty counted differs Item's std Pack/Case Qty for counting Active Location.”
INFER UOM FROM ITEM BARCODE IN RF PICK CART TRANSACTION
During the RF Pick Cart (rf.outbound.cwrfpickcart) operation, if you scan an item barcode that corresponds to a pack barcode, you will be prompted to enter the quantity in terms of Packs, and similarly for Cases. You do not have to worry about utilizing the hotkey or changing the screen depending on whether they are dealing with packs or cases. Even when the allocation UOM is units, the application can deduce the UOM based on the barcode scanned. Since the UOM quantity is directly derived from the alternate item barcode.
In 24A, WMS allows you to enter the quantity in terms of packs and cases if the underlying item or their corresponding inventory is tracked in packs and cases. This aids in enhancing picking productivity and inventory accuracy at your warehouse. Enable the new screen parameter "infer-uom-from-barcode" in the RF Pick Cart (rf.outbound.cwrfpickcart) module to pick the UOM from the barcode scanned.
- If the scanned barcode corresponds to the item barcode table, then the system picks the UOM, and quantity per UOM, and defaults the same in the Quantity entry field.
NOTE: During Non-Cubed or Cubed Picking, picking the UOM from the barcode scanned is applicable only when the screen parameter is configured to scan the item barcode. If the item barcode scan is not enabled, then inferring the UOM from the barcode scanned will not be applicable. If the scanned item corresponds to the normal item barcode entry, then the system proceeds with the picking screen displaying the quantity to be picked in terms of allocation UOM.
- If allocation UOM is Units and the scanned item corresponds to an inventory record whose Pack/Case Qty does not match the Qty Per UOM mentioned on the Item Barcode scanned, then display the error "Allocated inventory has Pack/Case Qty different than Item Barcodes Qty Per UOM".
SKU – SCAN MODE
- You can perform picking by inferring the UOM from the barcode scanned when allocation UOM is Units and the scanned barcode corresponding to Packs or Cases is in Sku Scan Mode.
- You perform picking by inferring the UOM from the barcode scanned when allocation UOM is Packs, and the scanned barcode corresponds to the UOM of Case in Sku Scan Mode.
NOTE: Each scan would increment the quantity picked based on UOM and conversion from the item barcode.
SKU -QUANTITY MODE
- You can perform picking by inferring the UOM from the barcode scanned when allocation UOM is Units, and you can scan the barcode corresponding to Packs and Cases in Sku Qty entry mode.
- You can perform picking by inferring the UOM from the barcode scanned when allocation UOM is Packs, and you can scan the barcode corresponding to Case in Sku Qty Mode.
Steps to Enable
- Go to RF Pick Cart (rf.outbound.cwrfpickcart).
- Click Screen Parameters > infer-uom-from-barcode.
- Enable the parameter and click Save.
