New Penalty Fields Available on Trade Program
This update introduces new fields to the Trade Program to support identification of penalty-related programs. With this enhancement, Global Trade Management (GTM) can leverage the provided information on the trade program to split declaration lines by content type (e.g., steel, aluminum, or other materials) for customs reporting purposes.
For example, if you are shipping a steel derivative, GTM can be configured to split the original declaration line into two lines for reporting: one for the steel content and another for all other content. The following fields have been added to the trade program:
- Penalty Type: Specifies the type of penalty applicable, such as steel, aluminum, or copper.
- Split Allowed: Indicates whether the declaration line can be split for reporting purposes.

Trade Program - Penalty Fields
Note: If you receive classification and tariff data from Descartes, the Penalty Type and Split Allowed fields are automatically populated as part of the data download process.
Business Benefit: This enhancement enables more accurate and compliant customs reporting by allowing trade programs to be clearly identified as penalty-related and declaration lines to be split based on material content (e.g., steel, aluminum). By leveraging new fields for Penalty Type and Split Allowed on the Trade Program, organizations can streamline compliance with complex trade regulations and reduce the risk of penalties or delays from incorrect reporting.
