One of your ideas has been delivered from your suggestion.Bulk MIP - Split Only Across Compartments

For users of the USE BULK PACKING MIP, the Mixed Integer Program option is available in the Container Optimization Logic Configuration to handle bulk items like liquids and granulated materials that are loosely packed into equipment. This enhancement provides a new parameter "SPLIT BEHAVIOR", that only applies when the USE BULK PACKING MIP is set to TRUE. This feature is designed to support situations where you do not want the planning logic to split orders over multiple equipment.

In the example below there are 3 orders for 4,000 gallons that are to be delivered on independent trucks.

When the SPLIT BEHAVIOR parameter is set to the default (Split Across Compartments and Shipments),  two consolidated shipments are built. This is an optimized solution but not the desired behavior.

When the SPLIT BEHAVIOR parameter is set to the new option (Split Only Across Compartments), the solution is the desired outcome - in this example, three shipments.

Business Benefit: This feature gives you more control over how bulk orders are split during container optimization, providing you with the option of limiting splitting done by the planning logic so that splitting only happens across equipment compartments within a single pieces of equipment. The additional logic allows you to comply with business rules leading to fewer execution exceptions and rework.

Steps to enable and configure

To take advantage of the new behavior, the Container Optimization Tuning Parameter - SPLIT BEHAVIOR must be set to "Split Only Across Compartments" option.

Tips and considerations

The SPLIT BEHAVIOR parameter only applies when the USE BULK PACKING MIP option is set to TRUE.
