Support Simultaneous Operator Check-Ins at a Workstation

Manufacturing plants that have complex manufacturing processes, such as multiple, intricate steps or heavy equipment for work execution, often require co-ordinated efforts of multiple operators at a workstation. With this update, you can now check in and check out of a workstation independent of another operator working at the same workstation.

When you check in to a workstation, you can see the other operators that are already checked in and working at the workstation. Multiple operators can work together at a workstation and the workstation independently tracks the time spent by each operator on the work order operation.

After checking in to a workstation, you can also check in your team member if they have been assigned to the workstation by the supervisor. When multiple operators are checked in to a workstation, any checked-in operator can perform execution actions, such as reporting quantities and material, performing inspections, and accessing work instruction information. An operator can check out of the workstation during work execution if their work is complete.

Simultaneous operator check-ins enable easier collaboration along with accurate tracking of work without disrupting the workflow.

Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials ManagementNo Longer Optional From: Update 25A

Production supervisors can assign operators to a workstation for a particular shift by using the 25A feature Manage Shift Operator Assignments for Workstations When Supervising Production.

Tips And Considerations

  • Production supervisors can select the enforcement level for operator assignment from the Smart Operations Configurations task. On the Configuration Parameters tab, set the Operator Assignment parameter under Workstation execution. The available options are Enforced and Not Enforced.
  • If assignment is enforced, then only operators assigned by a production supervisor for a particular shift can check in and execute operations at a workstation.
  • If assignment is not enforced, then any operator can check in to a workstation.
  • An operator can be checked in to only one workstation at a time.
  • An operator can check in to a workstation by themselves, or they can be checked in by an already checked-in operator. Additional operators can be checked in by an already checked-in operator only if the additional operator is configured as a person of type Employee or Contingent Worker, and is a labor resource instance in the work center where the workstation is located.
  • Operators can check in and check out at any time, including before, during, or after execution of operations. If they are checking in during execution of an operation which has labor resource qualification requirements, then they should be qualified before they are allowed to join the execution.
  • The time spent by operators at a workstation is individually tracked and transacted as resource transactions at the end of operation execution. This is computed as the duration that an operator spends executing the operation at a workstation with the workstation status as in-use.
  • In 24D, as only one operator could work at a workstation at any given time, only the production supervisor had the privilege to force check out operators and make workstations available for other operators. With this 25A update, operators can check in and check out other operators who execute operations together with them at workstations.

Access Requirements

Users who are assigned a configured job role that contains the following privileges can work simultaneously on work order operation execution at a workstation:

  • Execute Production at a Workstation (WIP_EXECUTE_WORKSTATION)
  • View Assigned Operators at a Workstation (WIP_VIEW_WS_ASSIGNED_OPERATORS)
