Analyze Unmet Demand in Planning Time Buckets
When you run the supply planning process to balance supply and demand, it’s possible that some portion of the demand isn’t just late but could be unmet because of various material and capacity constraints that may be present in your enterprise. You can view the quantity that was unmet for each demand on the Supplies and Demands page. However, it’s desirable to be able to incorporate this data when analyzing the plan at aggregate time bucket levels on pages such as the Material Plan. With this update, a new measure called Unmet Demand is now available to conduct such an analysis. By incorporating this measure into your analysis, you can quickly gain an understanding of the demand quantities that you’ll be unable to fulfill due to the constraints at your enterprise.
This feature allows you to:
- Review the unmet quantity of a demand as a measure.
- Drill from the Unmet Demand measure to the Supplies and Demands page to review demands.
This feature is applicable to constrained supply plans and to constrained demand and supply plans.
The Unmet Demand measure:
- Displays the unmet demand quantity as the measure value on the date of demand
- Is dimensioned by Product, Organization, Time, Customer, Demand Class, and Sales Organization and is stored at Item, Organization, Day, Customer Site, Demand Class, and Sales Organization levels
- Can be viewed at aggregated levels of the Product, Organization, Time, and Customer hierarchies
- Supports Change Granularity for Attribute-based Plans or Project-Driven Supply Chain plans to compute measure values by planning attributes
- Includes the demands that dropped and are unmet based on the plan option Number of Days for Demand Cutoff
The top screen in the following image shows that when the Unmet Demand is displayed at the day level, then the Unmet Demand measure value is displayed on the due date of the demand. The bottom screen shows that the Unmet Demand measure value is aggregated at the week level.
Example of Measure Displayed at Aggregated Week Level for a Daily Time Bucket Plan
The Unmet Demand measure value is refreshed in a simulation plan run if there are changes to plan output for previously unmet demand. For example, if the initial run of the plan had a demand with unmet demand quantity, then the Unmet Demand measure value will display the details. However, with a subsequent simulation run, if the demand is completely satisfied, then there won’t be any measure value displayed for the Unmet Demand measure.
Drilling from the Unmet Demand measure from a specific time bucket to the Supplies and Demands page will display demands that have a suggested due date in the time bucket of the measure value. If the measure is viewed at an aggregate level, then using the drill-to action will display all the demands that are part of the aggregated measure value, as shown in the following example.

Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
- The Unmet Demand measure must be added to the plan's measure catalog, and the plan must be run with full refresh to compute the measure.
- Drilling from the Unmet Demand measure is available only to the Supplies and Demands page.
- The Unmet Demand measure is computed for constrained supply plans with demand priority rules.
- The Unmet Demand measure can be archived and can also take part in plan comparisons.
Key Resources
- Refer to the 24A update feature Enable Attribute-Based Planning for Constrained Supply Plans for more details related to Attribute-based Planning and Project-Driven Supply Chain in constrained supply plans.
- Refer to the 23A update feature Fill Demand with Supplies Only Within a User-Specified Time Window to fill or kill demands within a user-specified window in constrained supply plans.
Access Requirements
Users who are assigned a configured job role that contains these privileges can access this feature:
