Use an AI Agent to Help Create Work Instructions for an Operation

Manufacturing operators need to follow instructions created by the manufacturing engineers to ensure consistent performance. The manufacturing engineers in turn rely on standard operating procedures and compliance documentation to ensure that they create the correct instructions for the operators. These procedures are often contained in elaborate documents and manuals, comprising topics that include safety, material management, industrial regulations, machine specifications, and work instructions for the products being manufactured on the shop floor. Manufacturing engineers usually analyze content from multiple sources to determine the optimal instruction steps to prescribe for each operation.

You can now use conversational language to ask questions and the AI agent fetches the relevant answers from your knowledge base documentation. The AI agent also includes citations and links to where the content is found in the knowledge base. As the AI agent retains the conversational context, you can ask follow-up questions to further narrow down the responses. This can help manufacturing engineers extract specific content that they can then use to create work instructions for each operation.

Manufacturing engineers can conveniently obtain answers on production processes and avoid spending time on searching through large, varied sets of documents.

Here's the demo of these capabilities:

Steps to Enable

Use the following steps to enable and deploy an agent. You can access the agent using a guided journey with an available journey code from all Redwood pages.

  • The Enable VBCS Progressive Web Application User Interface (ORA_HCM_VBCS_PWA_ENABLED) profile option should be set to Y to access the admin UI.
  • The Redwood Guided Journey Setup Page Enabled (ORA_PER_GUIDED_JOURNEYS_SETUP_REDWOOD_ENABLED) profile option should be set to Y to enable the guided journeys setup UI.
  • The Agent Task Type Enabled for Guided Journeys (ORA_PER_AGENT_TASK_TYPE_GUIDED_JOURNEYS_ENABLED) profile option should be set to Y to define agent type tasks in guided journeys.

The scheduled process is required to change the document status. For example, if the document status is set to Ready to Publish or Ready to Delete, the document will get published or deleted after the process runs.

NOTE: You can add more than one tool to an agent.

Add the Agent as a Task in the Page's Guided Journey

Add the Agent as a Task in the Page's Guided Journey

NOTE: There can be multiple agent tasks in the same guided journey. Each agent interacts independently with the user.

Tips And Considerations

  • The AI agents are enterprise-specific and require good source documents, as they rely on the information provided to come up with answers.
  • Before you can interact with the agent, a guided journey must be enabled in the application page and an agent task should be added to the journey.
  • The AI agents only process the text information provided in the documents and use these to provide the answers.
  • As the AI agent also includes citations and references to where the answers are present in the sources, you have the option to keep the information split across multiple files.
