View the Usage Factor for Options in CTO Models

When you are operating in a configure-to-order (CTO) environment, the forecasting process analyzes the demand at the model level and also the attach rates of options within the model to come up with the demand forecast. This update provides you with the ability to view the historical usage factor for the options to improve the forecast accuracy.

In demand plans for CTO products, the Planning Percent Existing measure is calculated through multiplication of the usage factor with the planning percentage from the item structure data. By collecting and viewing the usage factor (also known as the usage quantity) in a separate, user-defined measure for your demand plan, you can get visibility into the true planning percentage for option classes and option items without accounting for the usage factor.

To view the true planning percentage, you can configure another user-defined measure with an expression to divide the Planning Percent Existing measure with the measure that you create for the usage factor.

Steps to Enable

  1. Define a stored measure of the Number data type by duplicating the Planning Percent Existing measure to store the usage factor.

This measure must not be dimensioned by time, and the Refresh with current data checkbox must be selected on the Properties subtab on the Advanced tab in the Create Measure dialog box.

  1. Add this new measure to the measure catalog of your demand plan for CTO products.
  2. Define a profile option named MSC_USAGE_QTY_MEASURE as follows:
    1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, go to the Manage Profile Options task in the Supply Chain Planning functional area.
    2. On the Manage Profile Options page, in the Profile Options section, click the New icon.
    3. On the Create Profile Option page, create the profile option as follows:
      • Profile Option Code: MSC_USAGE_QTY_MEASURE
      • Profile Display Name: MSC_USAGE_QTY_MEASURE
      • Application: Planning Common
      • Module: Planning Common
      • Start Date: current date

Leave the remaining fields blank.

    1. Click Save and Close.
    2. On the Manage Profile Options page, for the MSC_USAGE_QTY_MEASURE profile option, in the Profile Option Levels section, select the checkboxes in the Enabled and Updatable columns for the Site level.
    3. Click Save and Close.
    4. In the Demand Management work area, on the Manage Planning Profile Options page, search for and select the MSC_USAGE_QTY_MEASURE profile option.
    5. In the Profile Values section, click the New icon.
    6. Add a profile value as follows:
      • Profile Level: Select Site to set the value globally for all users.
      • Profile Value: Enter the name of the measure that you created for the usage factor.

For example, if you’ve created a measure named Usage Quantity, then set the profile value to Usage Quantity at the site level.

    1. Click Save and Close.

You may need to work with someone who has administration privileges to make these profile-related changes.

  1. If you previously collected or loaded item structures (bills of material), then run the scheduled process named Create Trees for Dimensions for the CTO dimension with the Targeted collection type before you collect or load the item structures with the Net change collection type.
  2. Run the demand plan with the Refresh with current data option selected on the Parameters tab in the Run plan dialog box.

Tips And Considerations

In the Create Measure dialog box, on the Aggregation and Disaggregation tab, in the Aggregation Parameters section, preferably select Average in the Other Dimensions field for your user-defined measure for the usage factor.
