Capture and Review Expansion Recalls
Capture expansion recalls communicated by different sources when there are subsequent updates to the recall notices that were already communicated. Also create expansion recall notices through the user interface by copying from the originally captured recalls. Review the expansion recalls associated with their parent recalls and take appropriate decisions to manage the containment tasks.
You can now capture expansion recalls from different sources such as suppliers, regulatory authorities, and third-party aggregators. Manufacturers issue a new recall notice altogether as an expansion recall with any subsequent updates to a recall that was already communicated.
For example, if a recall notice issued initially contains a part with 5 different lot numbers – lot 1, lot 2, lot 3, lot 4, and lot 5, and later the manufacturer identifies that a few more lots are affected with the same reason for recall, and issues a new expansion recall with additional lot numbers – lot 6, lot7, and lot 8. Even the part numbers can be incremental in the expansion recall.
While capturing the expansion recall, the parent recall number based on which the recall data is expanded is populated as the recall association number in the expansion recall for reference. Recall notices communicated through Oracle Recall Curation Service will be populated with the recall association number for expansion recalls. Similarly, third-party aggregators or any integration with other systems can utilize the REST API to populate the recall association number to communicate expansion recalls. You can also manually create an expansion recall through the user interface by simply copying from a parent recall notice and making the incremental changes.
Expansion recall notices are highlighted as shown below in the Recall Notices landing page.

The parent recall number will be populated as the recall association number in the expansion recall notice, as shown below.

Expansion Recall from Parent Recall
An expansion recall notice can be manually created from the user interface by clicking the “Create Expansion Recall” action on the Recall Notices landing page.
Action to Manually Create Expansion Recall
You can copy only the recall header attributes, header and part details, or the entire recall attributes that include header, part details, and lot and serial details from the recall notice that was originally communicated by the recalling firm.
Selecting Copy Action while Creating Expansion Recall
Create Expansion Recall
All the header-level attributes will get copied except for the source document reference, reported date, and initiation date. The parent recall notice from which the copy was done will be populated as the Recall Association Number in this expansion recall. Also, the part details will get copied from the parent recall when the copy action is selected as Header and Part Details. You can make the appropriate changes in the expansion recall and publish it.
Expansion Recall with Header Attributes
Expansion Recall with Part Details
- Enables quick capture of expansion recalls issued by suppliers, regulatory authorities, or third-party aggregators, minimizing the time taken to react to evolving recall situations.
- Ensures that expansion recall data is properly linked to the original parent recalls, maintaining audit trails and regulatory compliance without manual error.
- Allows users to easily create expansion recalls by copying relevant data from parent recalls, ensuring consistency and saving time when handling incremental updates.
- Helps containment teams see the full scope of affected products, including new lots or parts identified later, and take appropriate action swiftly, preventing further damage.
- By reviewing parent and associated expansion recalls together, the recall manager can make more informed decisions about containment strategies and communication plans.
