Redwood: Use Additional Controls for License Plate Numbers
License Plate Numbers (LPNs) are a powerful tool to enhance warehouse management and optimize operations. By utilizing LPNs, you can efficiently track and manage the flow of goods, ensuring a seamless process from receiving, to storage, and shipping. LPNs provide a unique advantage when it comes to controlling how goods are handled within your warehouse.
Enforce Full LPN Transaction
Consider a scenario where you assign an LPN to a pallet in bulk storage to use it for replenishing a forward picking location. You want your operators to move the entire pallet and not just partial quantities to the picking area. With this new feature, the system can automatically restrict users from issuing partial quantities from a packed LPN to ensure that the pallet remains packed until it's appropriate to break it down further.
You can enforce full LPN transactions across all LPN-enabled locations or limit the enforcement to specific subinventories and locators.
When a location is enforced for full LPN transactions, you cannot issue or transfer only part of an LPN’s contents from that location. To move or issue a partial quantity, you must first perform a Repack transaction to transfer the required quantity into a new LPN, and then proceed with the transaction using the new LPN.
When using the Issue or Transfer by Item option in transactions, such as Miscellaneous Issue, Account Alias Issue, Interorganization Transfer, or Subinventory Transfer:
- If the selected LPN is in a location enforced for full LPN transactions, the system will display a message indicating that the entire contents of the LPN will be transacted.
- In this case, item detail fields, such as quantity, lot, and serial are not editable.
- Upon confirming the transaction, the entire LPN is transacted.
Subinventory Transfer
Additionally, during Pick Confirm or Quick Ship, the system does not allow the use of an LPN that contains more than the requested item and quantity for the picking or shipment line.
Reuse Shipped and Issued Out of Stores LPNs
In another case, you might be using the identification number stamped on the data plate of a metal shipping container as the outermost LPN for a shipment line. When you ship goods in these containers, you may expect the container will be returned and later reused for future shipments. The system now enables you to reuse previously issued LPNs, allowing you to easily manage the receiving and shipping processes for these LPNs.
When you ship an LPN as part of a shipment, it moves to the Shipped context. Similarly, when you issue an LPN through a miscellaneous transaction using the Issue By LPN option, it moves to the Issued Out of Stores context. In both cases, these LPNs are not available for use in subsequent transactions. However, when you enable the Enable reusing shipped or issued out of stores LPNs advanced inventory parameter for an organization, you can reuse LPNs in the Shipped or Issued Out of Stores context across all your transactions.
With these enhanced capabilities, you have greater control over your warehouse operations. You can determine whether partial issues of LPNs are allowed within specific areas of the warehouse or restrict them entirely. Additionally, you can decide if your warehouse will reuse LPNs, providing flexibility and efficiency in managing your inventory and logistics. These improvements empower you to customize your warehouse management, ensuring it aligns perfectly with your operational needs.
