AI Agent: Component Replacement Assistant
You can now use the new Component Replacement Assistant, an AI agent that helps design engineers respond to product change notifications requiring component replacements more quickly and accurately.
Here’s what the agent can do:
- Review the selected Product Change Notification document and retrieve the original item that is being replaced.
- Run a Where Used search to identify the associated parent items.
- Suggest potential replacements by performing a similarity search on descriptions within the same item class.
- Run an automated impact analysis to verify downstream supply chain management applications for details of on-hand quantity, purchase orders, blanket agreements, and work orders.
- Create a change order and route it for approval, with affected items automatically redlined and revised. Redlines will be added to the parent affected item by replacing the original component with the replacement component.
- Assign approvers based on the approval matrix and route the change for sign-off.
- Assign tasks according to the participant policy uploaded in the document tool, dynamically based on the impacted downstream applications.
- Send a detailed email to the designated recipients with the results of the analysis.
The assistant can be launched directly from the Attachments tab of the change request by selecting the attachment where you have uploaded the Product Change Notification document and clicking the Component Replacement Assistant button.

-
Reduces cost exposure by enabling strategic substitutions of high-cost or non-standard materials across the portfolio, aligning with sourcing and standardization goals.
-
Ensures regulatory and quality compliance by instantly flagging and updating all products with obsolete or non-compliant parts, helping to avoid costly recalls or penalties.
-
Maintains a consistent, auditable product master as component updates are cascaded securely across all product records, BOMs, and associated documentation.
-
Enables agile market and supply chain response, helping keep production running during supply disruptions, shortages, or strategic sourcing shifts.

Tips And Considerations
- Change request submitted
- The product change notification document can include only one affected item.
- Where used search for a component
- Limited to 25 records.
- Future effective parents won't be part of the where used search.
- Downstream SCM application analysis
- The on-hand quantities, purchase orders, blanket purchase agreements, and work order information for the parent items are retrieved for the organization in which the change request was created.
- Creation of change order
- A change order is created in the organization where the change request was initiated.
- You must modify the engineering change order type to use a sequence generated numbering method.
- If you want the agent to use your own change type, you can copy the predefined agent team and modify it in the business object.
- Configure the engineering change order type to become effective upon approval.
- You can replace a structure component in up to 7 parent items at a time.
- Participant policy uploaded in the document tool
- You must upload the file in a markdown PDF format for participant policy. In absence of this format, the agent hallucinates when table data is present.
- There can be only one reviewer or approver for each status in a change type.
- Roles aren't supported in this update.
- Participant policy that you upload must also include a Tasks section which has the Task Assignee and Task Start Status based on Task Type. You don't need the Task Name and Task Description columns.
- Email configuration
- You can send the email to a maximum of two recipients: one in the To field and one in the Cc field.
