One of your ideas has been delivered from your suggestion.Inherit Phantom Operations in the Parent Assembly Work Order

Manufacturers need granular control over the consumption of phantom components to improve item structure accuracy, optimize production sequencing, and support efficient material and resource usage. Before this update, components or components and resources of a phantom are assigned to the work order operation of the parent assembly where the phantom is assigned to in the parent assembly work definition. This is based on the value set for the Phantom Operation Inheritance plant parameter, whether it's "Material Only" or "Material and Resources".

With this update, the Phantom Operation Inheritance plant parameter has been enhanced to have two additional options. The new options are "Materials and Operations" and "Materials, Resources and Operations".

If the value is set to either one of the new values, components or components and resources of a phantom are assigned to the work order operations of the parent assembly based on the operation assignments in the phantom work definition. If an operation specified in the phantom work definition doesn't exist in the parent assembly work definition, then the components or components and resources are assigned to the work order operation where the phantom is assigned to in the parent assembly work definition.

The examples that follow describe the behavior before and after this update.

Behavior before this update where the phantom operation inheritance is set to "Material and Resources".

  • Parent work definition for item ABC
    • OP10 - COMP1, RESOURCE1
    • OP20 - COMP2, RESOURCE2
    • OP30 - PH1 (Phantom Supply Type), RESOURCE3
  • Work definition for PH1
    • OP10 - COMP6, RESOURCE6
    • OP20 - COMP7, RESOURCE7
    • OP30 - COMP8, RESOURCE8
    • OP40 - COMP9, RESOURCE9
  • Work order for item ABC
    • OP10 - COMP1, RESOURCE1
    • OP20 - COMP2, RESOURCE2
    • OP30 - COMP6, COMP7, COMP8, COMP9, RESOURCE3, RESOURCE6, RESOURCE7, RESOURCE8, RESOURCE9

Behavior after this update where the phantom operation inheritance is set to "Materials, Resources and Operations".

  • Parent work definition for item ABC
    • OP10 - COMP1, RESOURCE1
    • OP20 - COMP2, RESOURCE2
    • OP30 - PH1 (Phantom Supply Type), RESOURCE3
  • Work definition for PH1
    • OP10 - COMP6, RESOURCE6
    • OP20 - COMP7, RESOURCE7
    • OP30 - COMP8, RESOURCE8
    • OP40 - COMP9, RESOURCE9
  • Work order for item ABC
    • OP10 - COMP1, COMP6, RESOURCE1, RESOURCE6
    • OP20 - COMP2, COMP7, RESOURCE2, RESOURCE7
    • OP30 - COMP8, COMP9, RESOURCE3, RESOURCE8, RESOURCE9

The additional options in the Phantom Operation Inheritance plant parameter allow components or components and resources of a phantom to be assigned to different work order operations where they're used. This results in more accurate work order execution in terms of materials issue and resources charge.

Steps to enable and configure

To enable this feature, update the current value for the Phantom Operation Inheritance plant parameter with one of these new options:

  • Materials and Operations
  • Materials, Resources and Operations

Tips and considerations

  • The Phantom Operation Inheritance parameter is available at the plant level. If you update the value for this parameter, the change affects for all new work orders in the plant.
  • Supply Chain Planning currently doesn't support the Phantom Operation Inheritance plant parameter. It explodes "Material Only".
