View unreleased sales orders on the Item Shortages and Item Supply and Demand pages
Inventory managers rely on time-phased supply and demand information to evaluate inventory availability, identify potential shortages, and make proactive replenishment and allocation decisions. While released sales orders are reflected as demand, many organizations intentionally delay releasing sales orders from Oracle Fusion Cloud Order Management to Oracle Shipping until an order is closer to the fulfillment date. They do this to comply with specific inventory allocation strategies or for other operational reasons. Although these orders have not yet been released for shipping, they still represent committed customer demand that can significantly impact future inventory availability. Excluding these scheduled sales orders from the Item Supply and Demand page and the supply and demand view of the Item Shortages Workbench results in an incomplete picture of projected inventory, potentially leading to inaccurate availability assessments and delayed responses to emerging shortages. Now you can include scheduled but unreleased sales orders as open demand on the Item Supply and Demand page and in the Item Shortages Workbench.
Scheduled sales orders that are awaiting user reservation and haven’t been interfaced to Shipping are now shown as Sales Order demand. In addition to the demand details, this enhancement updates applicable actual and average demand quantities, including secondary quantities where displayed, and updates the demand count in Item Supply and Demand.
Including unreleased sales orders in the supply and demand picture provides a more complete and accurate time-phased view of inventory commitments and lets you better anticipate shortages, make informed planning decisions, and improve customer service while maintaining operational efficiency.
Steps to enable and configure
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips and considerations
- Only scheduled sales order lines are included. Sales order lines that haven't been scheduled aren't included as unreleased sales orders.
- Unreleased sales orders are displayed using the Sales Order document type.
- In Item Shortages, unreleased sales orders can affect actual demand, average demand, and secondary demand quantities wherever those measures are displayed. The affected views include Organization, Location, Par Location, and, when enabled, Kanban Location.
- For Location and Par Location views, the sales order subinventory must match the subinventory in the displayed shortage row. Organization-level demand isn't restricted by subinventory.
- To affect Item Shortages measures, the sales order scheduled ship date must fall within the configured shortage-demand period. For example, a sales order scheduled outside the configured historical or future demand window might not be reflected in those measures.
- Item Supply and Demand can display unreleased sales order demand outside the near-term shortage window, unless you specify a cutoff date. The demand count and the demand details are updated to include eligible unreleased sales orders.
- Unreleased sales orders don't appear on the Manage Shipment Lines page because they haven't been interfaced to Shipping. If you reserve an order through the fulfillment flow, the order is interfaced to Shipping and is no longer an unreleased sales order.
