Apple CarPlay for Mobile Workers

Apple CarPlay Integration brings an extended version of the Oracle Fusion Field Service application to Apple CarPlay, designed for mobile workers while they are in their vehicles. The feature is fully context-aware and displays only the most relevant information during the flow of work.

For example, when the mobile worker connects their iPhone to an Apple CarPlay–compatible vehicle, the application automatically prompts them to activate their route at the start of the day and then displays the next activity on the vehicle’s infotainment screen.

All interactions follow a safe, low-touch interface designed specifically for driving contexts.

Mobile workers will be able to:

  • Launch the extended application when connected to Apple CarPlay.
  • Start their route from the Apple CarPlay console.
  • View activity details with relevant customer and job information.
  • Navigate to customer sites using the native Maps application.
  • Call the customer directly (if contact information is available).
  • Receive prompts and alerts based on movement and job status.

Supported Apple CarPlay Screens in 26A

  1. Open Application Alert: Displayed when the user session has expired and prompts the mobile worker to open the application.
  2. Start Route Screen: Displayed when the mobile worker has not started their route.
  3. Activity Details Screen: Shows current activity details and relevant actions:
    • Navigate to the activity site.
    • Call the customer.
  4. Start Activity Alert: Displayed when the mobile worker reaches the activity location and stops.
  5. End Route Prompt: Displayed when all assigned activities are completed.
  6. Leave Day Screen: Displayed when the mobile worker has a scheduled leave day.

Business Benefits

  • Improved Mobile Worker Efficiency: Supports essential actions—such as route initiation, navigation, and communication—directly through the vehicle interface.
  • Optimized Application Usage: Enables key activity-related actions to be performed from the vehicle’s infotainment screen, reducing the need to open the mobile application.
  • Safety-Focused Design: Provides a voice-enabled, minimal-interaction interface designed to reduce distractions while driving.

Use Cases

  • Start-of-Day Route Launch: Mobile workers can initiate their daily route and navigation directly from the CarPlay dashboard.
  • Hands-Free Customer Communication: Enables safe, voice-driven calls or updates to customers while traveling between job locations.
  • Efficient Job Transitions: Supports quick navigation and status-related actions across multiple appointments without using the mobile application.

Steps to Enable and Configure

  • Update to the Oracle Fusion Field Service iOS application version that includes CarPlay integration.
  • Connect the iPhone to an Apple CarPlay–compatible vehicle.
  • Open the Oracle Fusion Field Service iOS application and initiate a route to enable full Apple CarPlay functionality.
  • Use the extended application on the vehicle’s console to perform key actions.

Tips And Considerations

Design Considerations

  • The interface is intentionally minimal to support safe use during driving.
  • Only essential and contextually relevant information is displayed.

Points to Note

  • The feature is inactive if:
    • The route is not active.
    • The mobile worker session is expired (reauthentication is required in the application).
    • Location permissions are not set to Always Allow.
    • The application is force-closed or has not been opened recently.
  • If required data is missing (for example, customer contact details or address) - the relevant button (such as Call Customer or Navigate) is disabled and the mobile worker is prompted to open the application.

Requirements

  • Latest iOS version of the Oracle Fusion Field Service application.
  • Apple CarPlay–compatible vehicle.
  • Oracle Fusion Field Service platform version 26A or later.
  • Location permission set to Always Allow.
  • Active mobile worker route.
