Overview of Copying Data Between Measures

You can copy data between measures in a plan or between measures in different plans in Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Planning.

This functionality provides you with visibility into measure data across different modules in Oracle Supply Chain Planning. For example, you can make the constrained forecast from Oracle Sales and Operations Planning visible to demand planners in Oracle Demand Management for reference. You can also enable further refinement of the operations forecast. After you copy a calculated measure into a stored measure, you can analyze aggregated or disaggregated planning data.

You can copy a source measure to a different target measure. For example, you can copy the Constrained Forecast measure from a demand and supply plan to a user-defined measure called Tactical Constrained Forecast in an aggregated sales and operations plan. You can then compare the constrained forecast with the tactical constrained forecast to drive effective decision-making.

Also, you can create measure mappings and save them to a measure copy set for reuse. You can change measure mappings in an existing measure copy set. By using measure copy sets, you can quickly copy measure data.

When you copy measures, you can do the following:

  • Copy a stored measure into another stored measure across plans or within the same plan.

  • Copy a calculated measure into a stored measure across plans or within the same plan.

By doing so, you can reduce the time taken for calculating and displaying the table or graph that has the target measure.

  • Copy a calculated measure into another calculated measure across plans.

  • Take snapshots of measure values for comparison at a later time.

You've two options to copy measures between plans or within a plan:

  • Use the Load Measures from Other Plans page in the Demand Management, Demand and Supply Planning, or Sales and Operations Planning work area.

This page in turn submits the scheduled process named Orchestrate Load Measures Processes.

  • Use the scheduled process named Orchestrate Load Measures Processes in the Scheduled Processes work area.

The target measure is refreshed only when you use the page or scheduled process. Therefore, you should use the page or scheduled process whenever the value of the source measure changes. Usually, you must use the page or scheduled process after a plan run with current data.

Tip: To improve the performance while copying measures, use a time-level range. Also, consider using the profile option code named USE_SCALED_QUERIES_PARALLEL to improve the performance. Set the profile option code at the user level for the individual who uses the functionality. Enter a number between 4 and 8 for the profile value in the LMFOP:<number> format. If you increase the number, copy performance will improve, but more computing resources will be consumed.

Source and Target Plan Type Mapping

This table explains how the planning calendars and planning time levels of the source and target plans are matched:

Source Plan Target Plan
Has the planning time level of Day in any planning calendar Can have any planning time level in any planning calendar
Has an aggregated time level in a planning calendar

(for example, Month in the Gregorian planning calendar)

Has the same or another aggregated time level in the same planning calendar

(for example, Quarter in the Gregorian planning calendar)

Has any planning time level in any planning calendar Can have the planning time level of Day in any planning calendar
Is a demand plan with a hybrid time hierarchy Can be a sales and operations plan with an aggregated time level

The planning calendar of the sales and operations plan is one of the calendars on the basis of which the hybrid time hierarchy of the demand plan is created.

The planning calendar and planning time level of the sales and operations plan determine the level at which measure data is copied.

For example, if you copy measure data from a demand plan for which the planning calendar is a Gregorian hybrid hierarchy to a sales and operations plan that's defined at the Gregorian month, measure data gets copied at the Gregorian month level.

Is a sales and operations plan with an aggregated time level Can be a demand plan with a hybrid time hierarchy

One of the calendars based on which the hybrid time hierarchy is created is the calendar for the sales and operations plan.

The planning calendar and planning time level of the sales and operations plan determine the level at which measure data is copied.

For example, if you copy measure data from a sales and operations plan defined at the fiscal Quarter level to a demand plan with a fiscal hybrid hierarchy, measure data gets copied at the fiscal Quarter level and disaggregated to the Hybrid time level.

Is a demand plan with a hybrid time hierarchy Can be another demand plan with a hybrid time hierarchy

Can be another demand plan if its planning calendar is one of the calendars based on which the hybrid time hierarchy is created for the source demand plan

Is a demand plan Can be another demand plan with a hybrid time hierarchy

One of the calendars based on which the hybrid time hierarchy is created is the calendar for the source demand plan.

For the source plan, if the Aggregate non-key customer data to an All Other level member checkbox is selected on the Demand tab on the Plan Options page, then the checkbox should also be selected for the target plan. If the checkbox isn't selected for the source plan, then the checkbox shouldn't be selected for the target plan.

The functionality for copying measure data can also be used with planning level profiles. For information about using the features together, see Overview of Planning Level Profiles.

Note: If you're copying measure data from multiple source plans to an aggregated target plan, then you must use the page named Load Measures from Other Plans or scheduled process named Orchestrate Load Measures Processes once for each source plan. If the same target measures are being updated, then you must ensure that each source plan has a distinct scope. Otherwise, data will get overwritten for the overlapping combinations.

Planning Time Level for Copying Measure Data

The planning time level for copying data is determined as follows:

  • When the source and target plans have the same planning time level, data is copied at that time level.

The planning time level can be Day, the Hybrid time level, or an aggregated level.

  • When the source plan has a lower planning time level than the target plan, data is copied at the planning time level of the target plan.

For example, if the planning time level of the source plan is Day, and the planning time level of the target plan is the Hybrid time level, data is copied at the Hybrid time level.

  • When the source plan has a higher planning time level than the target plan, data is copied at the planning time level of the source plan and disaggregated as required.

For example, if the planning time level of the source plan is Week, and the planning time level of the target plan is the Hybrid time level, data is copied at the planning time level of Week and disaggregated thereafter.

Source and Target Measure Mapping

Here's more information about source and target measure mapping:

  • When you copy data from a calculated measure to a stored measure, select a calculated measure for which the resulting value doesn't change often.

Calculated measures that use collected, historical data are good choices as source measures. Calculated measures that change when you generate a forecast or do a manual override aren't good choices as source measures.

Tip: When you want to copy data from a calculated measure to a stored measure, you can duplicate the calculated measure to create the stored measure. Remove the calculations from the stored measure, and retain the other settings.
  • You can't use a source measure in more than one mapping row of a measure copy set. Also, you can't use a target measure in more than one mapping row of a measure copy set.

  • Source and target measures can be predefined or user-defined.

  • The source measures can't be used for both configure-to-order (CTO) products and archiving.
Note: When the source and target plans are different, if a target measure doesn't contain the Time dimension, and there are combinations in the source plan that don't exist in the target plan, then these combinations won't be created in the target plan for the target measure even when the Create new combinations checkbox is selected. Only the existing combinations in the target plan are updated with data that's copied from the source plan. No message is displayed or logged in this regard. For the target measures that contain the Time dimension, combinations are created in the target plan as required.

This table summarizes how the list of available target measures is determined and displayed:

When

Then

The source and target plans are the same

  • The source measure isn't available for selection because the source measure and target measure must be different.

  • No calculated measures are available for selection.

  • The source and target plans are the same

  • The source and target plan types are different

  • The available target measures are of the same type as the source measure.

  • The available target measures are in the measure catalog of the target plan.

  • The available target measures have the same calculation order for aggregation as the source measure.

  • If the source measure is stored, then only stored or editable measures are available as the target measures.

  • If the source measure is calculated, then the available target measures are:

    • Stored or editable

    • Calculated and with the same dependent measures as the source measure when the source plan and target plan types are different

In this case, the dependent measures are in the measure catalog of the target plan, and one of the dependent measures must be stored or editable.

  • The available target measures have at least one hierarchy level in common with the source measure.

  • If the source measure contains the Day level of the Time dimension, then the available target measures must also contain the Day level of the Time dimension.

  • If the planning time level of the target plan is higher than Day, then the available target measures can be shared.

If the planning time level of the target plan is Day, then the available target measures can't be shared.

  • The available target measures aren't archived.

The source and target plans are different demand plans
  • The source and target measures can be the same or different.
  • Both the source and target measures can be editable.
  • Both the source and target measures can be stored.
  • Both the source and target measures can be calculated. The dependent measures for both the source and target measures must be the same.
  • If the source measure is calculated, the target measure can be stored.
  • If the source measure is stored, the target measure can't be calculated.
  • The source measure can be shared.

If the target plan has the planning time level of Day, shared measures aren’t available for selection as the target measures.

If the target plan has an aggregated time level, shared measures are available for selection as the target measures.

Time-Level Range for Copying Measure Data

You can specify the time-level range when copying measure data. You can include either the entire or a specific time-level range. You can copy the measure data for the past and future periods to support period-to-date reporting and analysis.

For example, you've a monthly sales and operations plan and need to copy the measure data from a calculated measure to a stored measure within the same plan. The plan start date is November 2, 2022, the current date is November 14, 2022, and the plan horizon is 24 months.

The plan is depicted by this figure:

Figure depicting example of a time-level range while copying measure data

  • To copy data for historical time periods before the plan start date, you must use negative integers. If the source measure spans both the history and forecast, then, to copy measure data from the previous month to the end of the plan horizon, you'd set the start of the time-level range to –1 and end of the time-level range to 24.
  • To copy data for the present and future time periods after the plan start date, you must use positive integers. If the source measure spans only the forecast, then, to copy measure data from the present month to the end of the plan horizon, you'd set the start of the time-level range to 1 and end of the time-level range to 24. The measure values in the November 2022 period are copied from the plan start date rather than from the current date.
Note: Enter nonzero integers for the start and end of the time-level range.
