Enabling or Disabling Security for Dimensions

You can enable security for dimensions, including user-defined Custom dimensions. If you do not enable security on a dimension, all users can access that dimension's members.

By default, security is enabled for the View dimensions. Optionally, you can enable security for any of the other dimensions, for example, Entity.

Note:

Do not disable security on the View dimension. Security access permissions assigned to members of the View dimension ensure that users with the Viewer role have read access to all data and that users with other roles have write access out of the box.

You can assign security to dimension members for users and groups. You can assign security at the member level or at the parent level.

To enable or disable security for a dimension:

  1. Click the Navigator icon Navigator icon.
  2. From Dimensions, select a dimension and then click Edit.
  3. From the Edit Dimension Properties page, select an option:
    • To enable security, click Apply Security.

      Note:

If you do not select this option, there is no security on the dimension, and users can access its members without restriction.

    • To disable security, clear Apply Security.

  4. Click Save.
