Order Management

Manually Create Order Movements

This page is accessed via the following:

  • Order Management > Order Release > Order Release or Order Release with Stops > Actions > Order Management > Manage Buy Order Movement or Manage Sell Order Movement > Manually Create Order Movements.
  • Brokerage and Forwarding > Booking > Freight Forwarding > Actions > Manage Buy Order Movement > Manually Create Order Movements.

This action allows you to define the details of how an order is routed without requiring the setup of required data such as rates or itineraries. This action manually creates order movements that span multiple legs and multiple transport modes.

When you run this action, a check is made to ensure that only one order release is selected and that it has one of the following PLANNING status values:

  • PLANNING_NEW
  • PLANNING_UNSCHEDULED
  • PLANNING_PLANNED - FAILED

An error message appears if the order does not have one of these status values. If the order release is valid, you are asked for the number of legs for the move. Subsequent pages prompt you for the details of each leg depending on the number of legs that you specified.

If the orders have different priorities, OTM will not let the bundling go through.

Note: OTM does not support order movement planning for multi-stop orders.

The following fields automatically default as follows:

  • Leg Number: Sequence based on the number of legs you specified.
  • Order Release ID: The Order Release ID that you selected prior to running this action.
  • Domain Name: The domain of the order release.
  • Creation Process Type: This is not an input field but is populated as USER ENTERED on the order movements that are created once this action completes.
  • Source Location ID: If it is first order movement, a location is filled in from the Plan From location (if it exists on the order release), or from the order Source location. If it is not the first order movement, this information is filled from previous order movement's destination location. This field is not editable.
  • Destination Location ID: If it is the last order movement, this information is filled from the Plan To location (if it exists on the order release), or from the order destination location. This field is not editable.
  • Pickup Date: If it is the first order movement, this date is the order release Early Pickup. If it is not the first order movement, this date is filled from previous order movement's late delivery. This field is not editable (exception - field will be editable if this is the first order movement and the Plan To is filled in and not equal to the destination location). This field is required.
  • Delivery Date: If it is the last order movement, this date is the order release Late Delivery and not editable (exception - field will be editable if Plan To is filled in and not equal to the destination location). This field is required.

If the Expected Cost and Primary Leg check box is filled in, then both the Pick Up and Delivery Dates for the order movement are required. The system will determine the Transit Time by subtracting the Late Delivery from the Early Pickup. This value is then populated in Expected Transit Time field on the itinerary leg that is created when the order movement is saved.

Complete the following additional details for each leg:

  • Calculate Contract Rate: You can mark this check box to have the system calculate the cost for the leg based on a rate or enter a cost in the Expected Cost field.
  • Expected Cost: If the Calculate Contract Rate check box is not selected, you can manually enter a cost for the leg.
  • Primary Leg: One leg must be marked as primary.

If you mark the Primary Leg check box, the following fields are automatically copied from the order release, if they are defined as a leg level constraint.
    • Rate Offering (buy or sell depending on the Perspective of the order movement)
    • Rate Record  (Buy or Sell depending on the Perspective of the order movement)
    • Equipment Group
    • Equipment Group Profile
    • Transport Mode
    • Profile
    • Service Provider
    • Service Provider Profile
    • Rate Service Profile

Note: Only fields which are blank before you mark this check box are replaced.

  • Calculate Service Time: When selected, OTM will calculate the time required for this service.
  • Expected Transit Time: Record the expected transit time in this section.
  • Leg Constraints: The remaining fields (Rate Record through Rate Service Profile) can be used to define constraints for the leg. If you do not enter a mode profile, it will be set to the public value ALL_MODES. This mode profile is compatible with all transport modes.

When you click Finished, order movements are created and the results page appears listing summary data for each.

All ship units from the order release are copied to each order movement.

The Order Movement Original Leg Position is based on the primary leg and is zero. Legs prior to it are numbered -1, -2, etc. Legs after it are numbered 1, 2, etc.

For each leg entered, a new leg is created and the Leg ID is auto-generated. The following fields are populated on the new leg:

  • Source Location ID
  • Destination Location ID
  • Service Provider Profile
  • Mode Profile
  • Equipment Group Profile
  • Expected Cost
  • Primary
  • Rate Offering
  • Rate Record
  • Domain

From the primary leg, a Leg Classification is created and assigned to the order release (Constraints tab). The Mode Profile constraint is automatically set to ALL_MODES. If you entered any other Leg Constraint for the primary leg, those values are also populated as Leg Constraints on the order release.

The Order Release status is set to PLANNED-FINAL.

Order Movement Planning Considerations

Certain information residing on the order release will be used when planning an order movement so you do not need to enter redundant information. This information includes the following:

  • Equipment

The order release allows you to define the type and number of equipment required for the transaction.  If this information has been provided on the order, then each leg/order movement will have the ability to re-use the equipment.  Again, if the equipment to ship unit relationship has been defined on the order, then each order movement will have the ability to re-use the relationship.

  • Port of Load and Port of Discharge

These fields are currently defined on the order release. For each set of order movements defined for an order release, one leg/movement must be defined as the primary leg. When planning the primary leg, the ports will not be populated onto the shipment.

If constraints are defined on the order release (i.e. service provider, transport mode, etc) these constraints will be honored on the primary leg/order movement - unless the order movement has overridden this information.
