Stowage Mode Preference Rule

This page is accessed via Operational Planning > Power Data > Planning > Stowage Mode Pref Rule.

When an order release is booked for a voyage, Oracle Transportation Management needs to determine the best stowage mode and subsequently the best voyage that supports that stowage mode. To determine the best stowage mode, you can create preference rules that are evaluated. This rule will, based on certain attributes on the order release, provide a preferred list of stowage modes that can be used for that order.

Note: You can also define a stowage mode directly on an order and it will override any stowage mode preference rules.

Once a stowage mode is selected, the next step is to identify the voyage for the order. Based on the order's available date and delivery date, and its primary route, Oracle Transportation Management iterates through the feasible voyages that meet the orders times and stowage mode requirements. A primary route for a lane is defined as the most preferred itinerary. Although the lane may contain other itineraries, Oracle Transportation Management must consider only the primary itinerary. However, a planner can manually plan on other defined itineraries in that lane. Among all the feasible voyages, the earliest feasible voyage is selected. Estimated transit times on the land leg itineraries are used for feasibility checking.

If no feasible voyage exists that has the capacity for the currently selected stowage mode, the next preferred stowage mode is chosen for the order release, and the earliest feasible voyage with available capacity on the new stowage mode is chosen. If all the stowage modes are explored and no voyage exists that can fit the entire order release, then a notification is sent to the planner indicating that no voyage exists for the order.

Preference Rule Criteria

Use the various fields in this section of the page to define the criteria that is used to determine whether a preference rule should be evaluated for an order release. The various Minimum/Maximum values apply to order release ship unit attributes. If any ship unit on an order release is outside the min/max criteria that you define, the preference rule is ignored. You can also define criteria based on the Commodity and Transport Handling Unit defined on order release ship units.

Stowage Mode Selection Priority

Use this section to define each Stowage Mode that should be included on the rule and the priority in which it should be used. For example, use the Sequence field to determine a priority or preference of using one stowage mode before another.
