Allocation Rule Manager Overview

This page can be accessed via Financials > Allocation Rule Management > Allocation Rule.

Allocation is the process of apportioning the transportation costs of shipments to their component orders for purposes of analysis.

Allocation is governed by allocation rules and allocation rule profiles. Allocation rules are sets of parameters that specify the basis, metrics, and percentages to be used in the allocation. Allocation rule profiles are ordered lists of allocation rules that can be assigned to specific service providers.

The Allocation Rule Manager enables you to create and edit these rules and profiles.

Types of Allocation

Planned and vouchered (that is, actual) costs of buy shipments can be allocated at the level of their order releases and of their line items. Allocation is performed first on a per-order basis and then by line item.

Planned costs can be allocated once a shipment has been planned. Actual costs can be allocated once a shipment has been matched to an invoice and a payment voucher has been issued (status value: PAYMENT_PAYMENT_VOUCHERED).

Allocation metrics include weight, volume, piece count, distance carried, or a combination of attributes.

Allocation Actions and Processes

Once allocation rules and profiles have been saved, and the profiles have been assigned to service providers, then you can perform allocation by using the following actions and processes:

  • To allocate the planned costs of shipments, use the Allocate action in the Shipment Manager.
  • To allocate the actual costs of shipments, use the Allocate Issued Voucher action in the Payment Invoice Manager.
  • To allocate the actual costs of shipments in batches, use the Bulk Allocation process in the Process Manager.
