Rules of Origins

This page is accessed via Master Data > Power Data > Rules of Origins > Rules of Origins.

Rules of Origins are criteria used to determine the origin or the qualification of a product. The source country of the imported item determines if the product qualifies for reduced duty rate treatment under the terms of a trade agreement.

Adding Rules of Origin

  1. Enter a unique identifier in the Rules of Origin ID field.
  2. Select an option from the Rules of Origin Type drop-down list. You can select an option to specify whether the rules are preferential rules, non-preferential rules, or marking rules.
  3. Enter the version of data used for these rules in the Data Version field.
  4. Select a domain in which the rules will be active from the Domain Name drop-down list.
  5. Enter a short name for the rules in the Short Name field.
  6. Enter the complete name of the rules in the Name field.
  7. Enter the trade agreement associated with the rules in the Trade Agreement Short Name field.
  8. Enter the code that is used to refer to the rules externally in the External Reference Code field.
  9. Enter a description of the rules in the Description field.
  10. Enter the effective and expiration dates of the rules in the Effective Date and Expiration Date fields respectively.
  11. Enter a region that is associated with the Rules of Origin in the Region field.
    Or
    Enter a country that is associated with the Rules of Origin in the Country Code field.

Base Rules

Use this section to associate base rules with the Rule of Origin.

There are three different types of base rules. These rules can be downloaded from a third-party content provider. The rule types are Min Ops, Sets, and De Minimis. When an item is being qualified, GTM will assess if a base rule applies or if a product-specific rule applies.

Adding a Base Rule:

  1. Enter the sequence in which the base rule will be applied in the Sequence Number field.
  2. Select an option from the Base Rule Type drop-down list.
  3. Enter an expression in the Expression field.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Click Finished.

View Product Specific Rules

Use this action to view all the product specific rules associated with the Rules of Origin for a given product classification code.

Enter a classification code in the Product Classification Code field and click Submit to view all such rules..
