Logistics Network Modeling

Single Leg Consolidation Use Case for Network Modeling

Different options are available for setting up logistics network modeling based on the scenario that you want to model. This use case will help you analyze the cost impacts on various single leg consolidation scenarios using parameter overrides. We'll create 3 modeling scenarios to compare costs based on consolidation as follows:

  • No Consolidation – All orders go direct. Disable bundling, same source and destination pair consolidation, and multistop.
  • Allow Consolidation but No Multistop – Allow consolidation of orders that have same source and destination location and bundling, but do not allow multistop consolidation.
  • Allow Consolidation with Multistop – Allow bundling, same source/destination pair and multistop consolidation.

Creating the Single Leg Scenario Use Case Project

The scenario data changes are performed using parameter overrides in the scenario.

  1. Create a modeling project.
    1. Enter the parameter set to be used in the scenario plan.
  2. Create Scenario 1: “NO CONSOLIDATION USING PO”. If you click New Modeling Scenario from the Modeling Project, information such as the parameter will populate onto the modeling scenario.
    1. Create a new parameter override that needs to be used in this scenario. You could call it “No Bundling_No Multistop”.
  3. Set up a parameter override by clicking New Parameter Override.
    1. Provide the Parameter Override ID you just added “NO BUNDLING_NO MULTISTOP”
    2. Define the parameters. To add the parameter, leave the logic configuration empty. Enter the parameter to be changed.
    3. Enter the value for the parameter. In this case
      • Maximum Volume per Bundle = 0 CUFT
      • Maximum Weight per Bundle = 0 LB
      • Multistop Allowed = false

  4. Set up another Parameter Override to override a logic configuration parameter.
    1. Select the logic configuration type; "Multistop" in this case.
    2. Provide the logic parameter name and value to be modified. In case, the logic parameter needs to be modified for certain logic scenario, provide the logic scenario name as well in this screen.
    3. Multistop disable same OD Pairing = true
  5. Create Scenario 2: "Allow Consolidation But No Multistop Using PO".
    1. Enter a parameter override with bundling and same source/destination pair enabled – “Allow_Cons_No_Multistop
  6. Create Scenario 3. “Allow Consolidation With Multistop Using PO”: This is the base scenario. No modifications needed.
  7. Review the project. In the Modeling Scenarios section, you will see each of the scenarios.
  8. Run the project action Scenario Bulk Plan to perform the bulk plan for the scenarios. Select the scenarios and click Submit.
  9. View the Results on the Scenario Bulk Plan Comparison screen.
