4 Managing Data Reporter Reporting Applications

Learn about creating and managing Data Reporter reporting applications.

4.1 Creating a Data Reporter Reporting Application

Create a reporting application from the Data Reporter home page.

Before creating a reporting application, you need to have one or more datasets. For more information on creating and managing datasets, see Managing Datasets.

To create a reporting application:

  1. From the Data Reporter home page, select Create.

    Tip:

    If this is your first time creating an application, select Create Application from the Data Reporter Welcome page.
  2. Specify a name in Name.
  3. Select the datasets to include in the application.
  4. Select Create.
The reporting application is created.

4.2 Editing a Reporting Application

Edit the Reporting Application Definition to configure icons and logos, manage datasets, select a Generative AI Service and customize other application attributes.

To edit an existing reporting application:

  1. From the Data Reporter Home page, select the application to edit.
  2. Select Edit Reporting Application Definition.
  3. Under Overview:
    1. Name - A short descriptive name for the application.
    2. Application Alias - An alternate alphanumberic application identifier.
    3. Description - A description of the application.

      Note:

      When AI is enabled, select Generate Description to add a description using the details associated with the objects and columns in the dataset.
  4. Under Icon and Logo:
    1. Icon - Displays the icon used for the Favicon, the PWA icon, the Apple touch icon and displayed on the login page.

      To change an icon:

      • Select Change Icon.
      • Choose App icon - Select a new icon for the Favicon, PWA, Apple touch icon, and login page. You can also upload a custom icon.
      • Select Save Icon.
    2. Logo Text - Text that displays as the logo in application header.
  5. Under Datasets - Displays the dataset associated with the application.
    • To edit the existing dataset, select the dataset name. See Managing Dataset Objects.
    • To add a dataset:
      1. Select Add Dataset.
      2. Search for additional datasets, or select the desired dataset.
      3. Select Add.
  6. Under Authentication:
    1. Authentication Scheme - Displays the current authentication scheme.
    2. Any authenticated user may access this application - Select Any authenticated user may access this application to allow any authenticated users to access the application. Otherwise, only editors and viewers associated with the application can access it.

      Data Reporter authentication is configured at the instance level and inherited by all Reporting Applications. Only instance administrators can change the authentication scheme.

  7. Under Generative AI - From AI Service, select a Generative AI Service from the list. The selected AI Service will be the default AI Service for this Reporting Application and new interactive reports will be automatically configured to support natural language.

  8. Under Browser Security - Toggle Enable Diction to enable the Web Speech API to convert speech into text for supported components.
  9. Select Apply Changes.

4.3 Deleting a Reporting Application

Delete a reporting application from the Data Reporter home page.

To delete a reporting application:

  1. From the Data Reporter home page, locate the application to delete.
  2. From the Actions menu, select Delete.
  3. Select Delete to confirm.
The reporting application is removed from Data Reporter.

Tip:

You can also delete a reporting application by editing the application definition and selecting Delete.

4.4 Enabling Generative AI in a Reporting Application

Note:

Before you can enable generative AI in a reporting application, you must create a Generative AI Service. To learn more, see Understanding Generative AI Support in APEX and Managing Generative AI Services in Oracle APEX App Builder User’s Guide

To enable generative AI in a reporting application:

  1. From the Data Reporter Home page, select the application to edit.
  2. Select Edit Reporting Application Definition.
  3. Under Generative AI - Select a Generative AI Service from the list of configured Generative AI Services to be the default AI Service for this Reporting Application..

    New interactive reports will automatically be configured to support natural language.

4.5 Running a Data Reporter Reporting Application

Run a Data Reporter application from the application home page.

How users run a Data Reporter reporting application depends upon their user role (Administrator, Editor, or Viewer). Editors also can sign in using the standard Oracle APEX workspace sign in. Editors are developers who has access to Data Reporter module only. Only Viewers need the URL for the application to run the application via application sign in. Since users created in Data Reporter, only have access to a Data Reporter module, you must proivde the URL for the Application Sign in dialog.

To run a reporting application:

  1. From the Data Reporter home page:
    1. Locate the reporting application.
    2. Under the Actions column, select the Run icon.
  2. From the Data Reporter Application home page:
    1. On Data Reporter home page, select the reporting application.
      The the Data Reporter Application home page appears.
    2. Select Run Application.
  3. If prompted, enter your credentials (Username and Password) and select Sign In.
