4.1 About Annotations

An annotation is a label-value pair that provides information about a database object.

The label identifies the type of information stored in the annotation. For example, DESCRIPTION can identify descriptive information, while SECURITY can identify security-related information. Labels are user-defined, so it is recommended to use names that are clear and consistent.

The value contains the information associated with the label. For example, a SALARY column in an EMPLOYEE table might have a DESCRIPTION annotation with the value "Employee base monthly salary before taxes and with no bonuses."
