Limit access from connected clients
Essbase can be accessed through clients and integrations, including: Smart View, MaxL, REST API, and AI clients connected through the Essbase MCP server.
When you configure this type of access, expose only the capabilities the client requires. For example, an AI client used only to explore cube data can use read-only capabilities rather than tools that can change data or application configuration.
The Essbase MCP server provides viewer, analyst, and admin access profiles. These profiles control which MCP tools are exposed to the client, but they do not replace Essbase security. Each operation is still authorized according to the permissions of the authenticated Essbase user.
