Insights

Note:

Database Server section will not be displayed in a non-Exadata environment.

Timeline

Starting with AHF 24.10, you can open the log or trace file associated with an event directly from the AHF Insights timeline. Selecting an event opens the file in the File Viewer at the location where the event was recorded.

The Timeline section displays significant database-related events in chronological context. It provides graphical and tabular views that help you correlate events across hosts, databases, Oracle components, and specific points in time.

To use the Timeline, open an AHF diagnostic collection, extract the AHF Insights report, and select Timeline from the Home page.

Use the Timeline to:

  • Select Component Faceted View from the Select timeline filter to group events by Oracle components, such as RDBMS, CRS, and OS.
  • Select Database Faceted View from the Select timeline filter to group events by database.
  • Click Copy Snippet to copy event details to the clipboard.
  • Click View in the Open in File Viewer column to open the associated log or trace file. The View button is available only when the event is associated with a file containing event details. The File Viewer opens the file at the line where the event was recorded.
  • Review the Triggering Events section at the top of the Timeline. If an automated collection, such as an SRDC, generated the Insights report, this section displays the event that triggered the report.
  • Use the filters to search for specific values.
  • Filter events by a specific time range.
  • Click the arrow next to a date to view detailed information for a specific timestamp.
  • Hover over a data point in the graph to view details for that point in time.
  • Zoom in on the timeline for a more detailed view.

After opening a file in the File Viewer, you can browse the complete contents of the log or trace file and search for specific information.

Best Practice Issues

Starting with AHF 23.8, compliance checks from Oracle Orachk and Oracle Exachk are integrated into the Best Practice Issues section of AHF Insights.

Oracle Autonomous Health Framework (AHF) includes thousands of Best Practice Compliance Checks that Oracle Orachk and Oracle Exachk run automatically. You can view the results of these checks in HTML reports or consume the results in JSON and XML formats using other tools.

AHF Insights integrates these Best Practice Compliance Checks into a unified interface for on-demand compliance analysis. It helps you quickly assess the overall health of the system, identify areas that do not comply with recommended best practices, and determine the corrective actions required.

Use the Best Practice Issues section to:

  • Explore best practice compliance information in a visual format.
  • Filter best practice checks by status using the visualizations or the Status filter.
  • Search for checks across all sections of the best practice report.
  • Review the best practice report in a vertically organized view.
  • View the overall Health Score and the visual distribution of checks, including failed checks.

Continue to use Oracle Orachk and Oracle Exachk commands for automated and scheduled compliance checks. For an on-demand compliance investigation, generate an AHF Insights report:

Performance Reports

Performance Reports provide diagnostic information for monitoring and analyzing Oracle Database performance. Database administrators can use these reports to identify performance bottlenecks, resource-intensive SQL statements, workload trends, and other issues that can affect database performance.

AHF Insights provides the following performance reports:

  • Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) Reports
  • AWR Compare Reports
  • Performance Hub (PerfHub) Reports

To collect diagnostic data for database performance analysis, run the dbperf Service Request Data Collection (SRDC):

tfactl diagcollect -srdc dbperf -database <db_name>

How Performance Reports Help

Use performance reports to:

  • Diagnose database performance bottlenecks.
  • Identify resource-intensive SQL statements.
  • Analyze CPU, memory, and I/O utilization.
  • Monitor database workload and usage trends.
  • Identify database wait events and other sources of latency.
  • Support database performance tuning and optimization.

Supported Systems and Platforms

Performance reports can be generated for Oracle Database environments running on systems such as:

  • Oracle Exadata
  • Oracle Database Appliance (ODA)
  • Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC)
  • Oracle Database single-instance environments

Performance reports are supported on applicable operating system platforms, including Linux and Oracle Solaris.

Automatic Workload Repository Reports

Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) collects, processes, and maintains Oracle Database performance statistics. An AWR report summarizes database performance over a selected time period.

An AWR report can include:

  • CPU, memory, and I/O utilization
  • Database wait events
  • SQL statements consuming significant resources
  • Instance activity and workload information
  • Object-level statistics, such as index usage and table scans

Use AWR reports to identify performance bottlenecks, investigate resource-intensive SQL statements, and identify opportunities for database performance optimization.

Note:

AWR is part of the Oracle Diagnostics Pack and requires the appropriate license. Verify licensing requirements before using AWR functionality.

AWR Compare Reports

AWR Compare Reports compare database performance between two time periods. Use these reports to identify changes in database behavior and determine how performance metrics differ between the selected periods.

An AWR Compare Report can include comparisons of:

  • Database wait events
  • CPU, memory, and I/O utilization
  • SQL performance
  • Database workload and activity

AWR Compare Reports are particularly useful when investigating performance changes associated with events such as:

  • Software upgrades
  • Configuration changes
  • Patching
  • Application changes
  • Changes in workload

Comparing a period of normal performance with a period of degraded performance can help identify the conditions associated with a performance issue.

Performance Hub Reports

Performance Hub (PerfHub) Reports provide an interactive graphical view of database performance information, enabling you to explore workload and performance data from a consolidated interface.

A Performance Hub report can include:

  • CPU and memory utilization trends
  • SQL performance information
  • I/O metrics
  • Database wait information
  • System and workload bottlenecks

Use Performance Hub reports to analyze database activity, identify SQL statements or resources contributing to performance problems, and investigate performance behavior over time.

For more information about AWR Reports and Performance Hub Active Reports, see Gathering Database Statistics in the Oracle Database Performance Tuning Guide.
