Connect to the SMB Share from macOS

Connect to the ECP Data Bridge SMB share from a macOS system.

Use the Cloud Connector hostname when it is available. Use the IP address when hostname-based access is unavailable.

Ensure that:

  • ECP Data Bridge is installed and running.

  • Port 445 is open for the network used to access the Cloud Connector.

  • The macOS system can reach the Cloud Connector over the local network.

  • You have the Cloud Connector hostname or IP address.

  • You have the ECP Data Bridge SMB share name.

  • You have the username and password for an enabled ECP Data Bridge account.

  1. In Finder, select Go, and then select Connect to Server.
The Connect to Server dialog opens.
  2. In Server Address, enter the SMB address using one of the following formats:
    • Using the Cloud Connector hostname:
      smb://<username>@<Cloud-Connector-hostname>/<SMB-share-name>
    • Using the Cloud Connector IP address:
    • smb://<username>@<Cloud-Connector-IP-address>/<SMB-share-name>
  3. Use the hostname-based address when possible.
  4. Select Connect.
  5. When prompted, enter the password for the ECP Data Bridge account.
  6. Select Connect
The ECP Data Bridge SMB share opens in Finder.
  7. Open the share and verify that you can access its contents.

The operations available in the share depend on the role assigned to the account:

  • A read-only account can view and copy files from the share.

  • A read-write account can also add, edit, rename, and delete files and folders.

For information about working with files in the share, see Manage Files in the SMB Share.

If the connection stops working after the Cloud Connector IP address changes, see Restore SMB Access After an Address Change.
