Map the SMB Share in Windows

Map the ECP Data Bridge SMB share as a network drive on a Windows system.

Use the hostname of the Cloud Connector when it is available. You can use its IP address when hostname-based access is unavailable.

Ensure that:

  • ECP Data Bridge is installed and running.

  • Port 445 is open for the network used to access the Cloud Connector.

  • The Windows system can reach the Cloud Connector over the local network.

  • You have the Cloud Connector hostname or IP address.

  • You have the name of the ECP Data Bridge SMB share.

  • You have the username and password for an enabled ECP Data Bridge account.

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. In the navigation pane, select This PC.
  3. Select More, and then select Map network drive.
If Map network drive does not appear in the More menu, right-click This PC, and then select Map network drive.
  4. In Drive, select an available drive letter.
  5. In Folder, enter the path to the ECP Data Bridge SMB share using one of the following formats:
    • Using the Cloud Connector hostname:
      \\<Cloud-Connector-hostname>\<SMB-share-name>
    • Using the Cloud Connector IP address:
      \\<Cloud-Connector-IP-address>\<SMB-share-name>
  6. Use the hostname-based path when possible.
  7. To connect to the share automatically when you sign in to Windows, select Reconnect at sign-in.
  8. Select Finish.
  9. When prompted, enter the username and password for the ECP Data Bridge account.
  10. Complete the connection.
The ECP Data Bridge share appears as a network drive under This PC.
  11. Open the mapped drive and verify that you can access its contents.

The operations that you can perform depend on the role assigned to the account:

  • A read-only account can view and copy files from the share.

  • A read-write account can also add, edit, rename, and delete files.

For information about working with the files in the mapped drive, see Manage Files in the SMB Share.

If the mapped drive stops working after the Cloud Connector IP address changes, see Restore SMB Access After an Address Change.
