SMB Access and Permissions
ECP Data Bridge uses authenticated SMB access and read-only or read-write roles to control operations on files stored locally on the Cloud Connector.
ECP Data Bridge exposes its local file storage as an SMB network share. The share contains files downloaded from configured sources and files added directly through SMB.
SMB version 3 is supported for connections to the share.
Authentication
Connect to the SMB share using the username and password configured for an ECP Data Bridge account. The same credentials provide access to the ECP Data Bridge local UI.
Access to the share is affected by changes made to the account configuration:
-
Changing the password replaces the password used for both local UI and SMB authentication.
-
The previous password no longer provides access after the change is applied.
-
Disabling the account prevents authentication to both the local UI and the SMB share.
-
Reenabling the account restores access using its current credentials.
A separate ECP account is not required to connect to the SMB share.
SMB permissions
The role assigned to the ECP Data Bridge account controls the file operations available through SMB.
| Role | Available SMB operations |
|---|---|
|
Read-only |
View and open folders and files, and copy files from the share to the connected system. The account cannot add, edit, rename, or delete folders or files. |
|
Read-write |
View and copy folders and files. The account can also copy content to the share and add, edit, rename, or delete folders and files. |
The assigned role controls SMB file operations only. Both read-only and read-write accounts can use the source and transfer functions available in the ECP Data Bridge local UI.
Shared local storage
Files downloaded through ECP Data Bridge and files managed through the SMB share use the same local storage. Adding or deleting files through SMB changes the amount of available storage.
Note: Do not delete files associated with a failed or canceled upload if you intend to retry the upload. ECP Data Bridge cannot retry the upload if required files are missing from local storage.
