Batch Job Analytics
The Batch Job Analytics portal illustrates a set of metrics aligned with execution of batch processes at the job level. This portal is useful for summarization of the state and work performed by a batch control over a selected date range.
Batch Job Analytics Search
To use this portal you must first select the batch control and the period you want to analyze using the Batch Job Analytics search from the search dropdown. To help find the necessary batch control, you can use a variety of filters to refine your search.
Once the appropriate filters are populated a list of batch controls is returned with the number of executions in the snapshot for the specified date range and other filters specified. To start the analysis, select the desired batch control from the list.
Batch Job Analytics - Main
The Main section of the analytics summarizes the state, submission source, performance, and volumes processed by the desired batch control over a date range. This includes analysis in the following areas:
- The Batch Job Status Summary zone summarizes the state of all executions of the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. In an ideal situation this graph should show a high percentage of complete (successful) executions.
- The Batch Job Submission Summary zone summarizes the method used to submit the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. In an ideal situation, batch jobs are submitted the using a small amount of methods to maximize efficiency.
- The Batch Job Elapsed Time Summary zone shows the minimum (best) elapsed time, average elapsed time and maximum (worst) elapsed time for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. All elapsed times are shown in seconds, with the hover text translates the time into DD:HHMI:SS format. In an ideal situation, all the values should be relatively the same. Large deviations in values may be due to volume or inefficiencies.
- The Batch Job Volume Summary zone shows the minimum (lowest) volume, average volume and maximum (highest) volume for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. Volume is expressed as the total number of objects processed by the job. In an ideal situation, all the values should be relatively the same. Large deviations in values may be due to business fluctuations or inefficiencies.
Batch Job Analytics - History
The History section of the analytics shows detail information for job level elapsed time and volumes for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot.
Each analysis includes additional reference information such as the average value and the confidence interval to use. Values above the confidence interval should be considered as outliers and require further analysis.
This includes analysis in the following areas:
- The Batch Job Elapsed Time History zone shows the job level elapsed time, in seconds (the hover text translates the time into DD:HHMI:SS format) for each batch run for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. This can highlight fluctuations in elapsed time of data processed by the batch job over time.
- The Batch Job Volume History zone shows the total number of objects processed by each batch run for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. This can highlight fluctuations in volumes of data processed by the batch job over time.
Batch Job Analytics - Submission
The Submission section of the analytics shows analysis of submission information periods applicable to the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot.
This includes analysis in the following areas:
- The Batch Job Submission History zone shows the number of submissions per day over the for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. This can highlight fluctuations in how often the desired batch control is submitted. Ideally the number of submissions should be consistent.
- The Batch Job Submission By Day Of Week zone is an analysis of the total submissions by each day of the week to help detect any fluctuations in submission patterns for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. Ideally the number of submissions should be consistent.
- The Batch Job Submission By Hour Of Day zone is an analysis of the total submissions by each hour for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. This zone is provided to help detect any fluctuations in submission patterns. Ideally the number of submissions should be consistent.
- The Top Users Submitted Job zone summarizes the top 20 users that have submitted the desired batch control over the desired date range as expressed in the snapshot. The total number of submissions by those users is shown for the desired batch control over the desired date range within the snapshot. This zone is primarily provided to help detect unusual patterns by individual users as necessary.
Batch Job Analytics - Detail
The Detail section of the analytics lists all batch runs for the desired batch control over the desired date range as expressed in the snapshot. This represents the data that was used as part of the analysis used in the previous sections. It is possible to navigate to the Batch Run Portal for individual runs for further information. This list can be further filtered for status and submission method used.
