Batch Workflow Analytics

The Batch Workflow Analytics portal illustrates a set of metrics aligned with execution of batch processes at the workload level. This portal is useful for ;looking at workload at the threadpool level to determine load profiles over a particular day for a particular threadpool.

Note: To use these analytics, you must populate the batch snapshot must be populated, on a regular basis, using the batch job F1BTANSN - Batch Thread Analytics Snapshot Update..
Note: Workload Analytics use a "workload minute" to measure capacity. Each thread running in any minute uses one workload minute. If multiple threads run in the same minute, each one adds to the total. This makes it easy to see how much capacity is used during a day, since the maximum available is the number of allowed threads multiplied by 1,440 minutes (the total minutes in a day) for each thread pool.

Batch Workload Analytics Search

To use this portal you must first select the batch control and the period you want to analyze using the Batch Workload Analytics search from the search dropdown. To help find the necessary threadpool and date, you can use a variety of filters to refine your search.

Note: Date Range is required At a minimum a date range must be specified. This must be either the predefined period or a custom date range. For custom date ranges, it is recommended to limit the range to analyze less than a thousand (1000) values for performance and readability reasons.

Once the appropriate filters are populated a list of threadpools and dates is returned with the total workload minutes for the combination of threadpool and date in the snapshot for the specified date range and other filters specified. To start the analysis, select the desired threadpool and date combination from the list.

Batch Workload Analytics - Main

The Main section of the analytics summarizes workload minutes for the desired threadpool and desired date for every two minute interval. This zone shows how busy the desired threadpool was at any point in the desire date. You filter the information with additional filters as necessary.

Clicking on any point in time will broadcast the time interval and the Batch Workload Detail will show the batch jobs and threads that were started, running and/or complete in that interval. You can navigate to the Batch Run Portal for additional information.

Batch Workload Analytics - Summary

The Summary section of the workflow analytics provides summary level analytics related to the total workload minutes in the desired threadpool and desired date. This includes analysis in the following areas:

  • The Batch Workload Summary by Category zone summarizes total workload minutes by batch category. This can be used to appreciate the distribution of workload for the desired threadpool and desired date.
  • The Batch Workload Summary by Submission zone summarizes total workload minutes by submission type. This can be used to appreciate the distribution of how the workload is submitted for the desired threadpool and desired date.

Batch Workload Analytics - Hour Analysis

If the minute by minute analysis is too detailed, the Batch Workload Hour Analysis zone shows workload by hour of the day for the desired threadpool and desired date.
