About Device Locations

Device locations represent locations where controllable devices are installed and used. A device location can have multiple controllable devices installed at a time.

Device locations are often created as a result of the customer enrollment process, but can be created on an ad-hoc basis as needed.

Device locations are defined by the following:

  • Device Location Type: The device location type record on which the device location is based. Device location types define certain parameters and attributes of a class of device locations.

  • Distribution Network Facility: The network node closest to the device location. In terms of electric networks, facilities typically represent transformers.

  • Division: The operating company or operating division within a large conglomerate of utilities associated with the device location.

  • Status: The current status of the device location.

  • Address and Location Information: The address (including city, state, postal code, and country) and geographic location of the device location.

  • Controllable Devices: A list of one ore more controllable devices installed at the device location, including the date and time the device was installed or removed (as applicable), and whether or not the device is active. When a controllable device has been removed, this list also indicates a crew (used to identity the Out of Service Location where the the asset is moved to upon removal).

  • Life Support / Sensitive Load Information: Information regarding life support equipment installed at the device location, or if the load supplied to the device location is considered sensitive.

  • Field Information: Information related to field work performed at the device location, including any applicable warnings or instructions.
