Understanding Service Point Types

Service point types define a specific type of point at which service is delivered.

Specifically, service point types define how the application manages many aspects of the service point's behavior. A service point type may have one or more valid device types defined that limit the types of devices that can be installed at service points of this type. A service point type may also have one or more service agreement types (SA Types) that define the types of service agreements that may be linked to service points of this type.

The Service Point Business Object field defines the business object used fir service points of this type. Service points in Customer To Meter should be created using the “Service Point — MDM” (X1D-ServicePoint) business object.

The Service Point Category/Sub Type field defines the types of devices that can be installed at service points of this type. Valid values include:

  • Meter: Indicates that a single meter can be installed at service points of this type.
  • Item: Indicates that a single "badged" item can be installed at service points of this type.
  • Multi-Item: Indicates that one or more "unbadged" items can be installed at service points of this type.

The Divisions section defines one or more divisions associated with service points of this type.

The Characteristics section defines characteristics common to all service points of this type.

Note: In Oracle Utilities Customer To Meter, Service Point Types are maintained via Merged Maintenance.

Valid Service Point Characteristic Types

The Valid SP Characteristic Types zone lists the valid characteristic types that may be instantiated on service points of this type. Only characteristic types defined for both the “Service Point — MDM” and “Service Point — CCB” characteristic entities can be selected in this zone. Characteristics of these types are maintained using the SP Characteristics zone in the Service Point portal.

Other Service Point Characteristic Types

Though not recommended, it’s possible to create characteristic types defined for either the “Service Point — MDM” characteristic entity or the “Service Point — CCB” characteristic entity. In these instances, the following considerations should be taken into account:

  • Characteristic types defined for the “Service Point — MDM” characteristic entity, but not the “Service Point — CCB” characteristic entity, must be defined as flattened characteristics on the service point business object and maintained through the service point maintenance portal.
  • Characteristic types defined for the “Service Point — CCB” characteristic entity, but not the “Service Point — MDM” characteristic entity) are not supported in Customer To Meter.

Valid Field Task Types

The Valid Field Task Types zone lists field task types considered valid for service points of this type. The field task types available when creating field activities can be based on the field task types listed here via the Restrict Field Task Type by Service Point Type option on the Service Order Management Master Configuration.
