Understanding Head End Systems

Head end systems represent external systems that handle the communication with controllable devices. With Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Cloud Service and Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management, Oracle Utilities Network Management System can be used as a head end system to facilitate communication with and control of controllable devices.

Head end systems utilize processing methods that specify the types of messages that are processed and sent to the external system.

Head end systems are defined by the following:

  • External Reference ID: An ID used to reference the head end system in external systems and applications.

  • External System: The external system associated with the head end system.

  • Our Name in Their System: The name for Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Cloud Service or Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management in the external system.

  • Service Provider Type: The general type of service provider to which the head end system belongs (default is "Head End System").

  • Processing Methods: One or more processing methods used to define the format or means by which the head end system receives or sends data from or to the application. Processing methods can also be used to define the information an external system wishes to subscribe to receive from the application.

  • Translation Methods: One or more methods used for translating data sent between the head end system and Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Cloud Service (or Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management).
