Configuring the Givex Host Adaptor

The following steps describe how to configure the Givex Host Adaptor after downloading and installing it to a workstation. For more information on how to download and install the adaptor file, contact your Givex representative for assistance.

  1. Download and install the provided Givex Host Adaptor file to your workstation. Make sure to run the file as an administrator to avoid any issues.
  2. After installation, browse to [Drive Letter]:\Program Files\MicrosGivex, and then open the GIVEX.INI file in Notepad or Notepad++.
  3. Edit the following areas in the file:
    1. (Optional) LISTEN_PORT: By default, the value is set to 50000. You may edit this port number if you wish to use a different port, due to possible restrictions.
    2. INVENTORY_BASE: This setting controls the mapping of Givex transactions to Oracle MICROS Service Charges. Each of the four Givex transactions that require configuration correspond to a Service Charge:
      • Register (Givex service 904)

      • Increment (Givex service 905)

      • Activate (Givex service 906)

      • Points Redeem (Givex service 912)

Set the INVENTORY_BASE to equal the corresponding Service Charge record numbers in the EMC, For example, if the Givex Service Charge record numbers set in the EMC are listed as 2, 3, 4, 5, then set it as INVENTORY_BASE = 2, 3, 4, 5. The configuration file provides comments that explain the process in further detail for other examples.

    3. TENDER_BASE: This setting controls the mapping of Givex transactions to Oracle MICROS Tenders. Each of the six Givex transactions that require configuration correspond to a Tender:
      • Gift Card Redeem (Givex service 901, 902, 921)

      • Cash Back (Givex service 919)

      • Points Issue (Givex service 911)

      • Pre Auth (Givex service 920)

      • Promotion Card Redeem (Givex service 901, 902, 921)

      • Ticket Redeem (Givex service 901, 902, 921)

Set the TENDER_BASE to equal the corresponding Tender Media record numbers in the EMC, For example, if the Givex Tender Media record numbers set in EMC are listed as 2, 3, 4, 5, then set it as TENDER_BASE = 2, 3, 4, 5. The configuration file provides comments that explain the process in further detail for other examples.

    4. TERMINALS: Set the TID=USER, PASSWORD to the following:
      • TERMINAL ID (TID) = Workstation Object number (record number as shown in the EMC)

      • USER = Givex Terminal user ID

      • PASSWORD = Givex Terminal user password

The Givex terminal user ID and password are provided to you by Givex. Each workstation/terminal in the system requires one entry. The configuration file provides comments that explain the process in further detail.

  4. After completing the necessary changes to the file, click File, and then click Save.
  5. To ensure that the configuration changes take place on the workstation, navigate to Windows Services, locate the Givex adaptor named Givex SVC Adaptor, click the service, and then click Restart.
