Start of Day Business Rules

Simphony has business rules to determine how and when a business day can begin, and which business day is beginning. The rules exist for both automatic and manual Start of Day (SOD).

The Set Business Date equal to Calendar Date if Start of Day configured between 12:00 PM and Midnight option allows you to configure the SOD to set the business date to the current date if the SOD is configured to run automatically after 12:00 noon and before 12:00 (00:00) midnight. If this option is not enabled, the legacy SOD behavior remains unchanged.

If the Set Business Date equal to Calendar Date if Start of Day configured between 12:00 PM and Midnight option is enabled when starting a new business day, the following rules apply:
  • SOD cannot be run twice within 8 hours.

  • SOD cannot be run twice between midnight and the <configurable time>.

  • SOD cannot be run twice between the <configurable time> and midnight.

  • When a business day is scheduled to run automatically, it is not possible to start the business day manually with a PC Autosequence.

  • A business date is calculated based upon the <configurable time> to <configurable time>.

Prior to the Simphony 19.3.3.4 release, a business day is calculated based on 12:00 p.m. noon to noon times by default.

  • If SOD is run before noon, Simphony assumes the business day completed is for the previous calendar day. For example, if the SOD runs at 3:05 a.m. on the 17th, the 16th is the business day that is closing, and the 17th is the business day being started.

  • If SOD is run after noon, Simphony assumes the business day completed is for the current calendar day. For example, if the SOD is run at 11:52 p.m. on the 17th, the 17th is the business day that is closing, and the 18th is the business day being started.

With the Simphony 19.3.3.4 release and later, the Set Business Date equal to Calendar Date if Start of Day configured between 12:00 PM and Midnight option works as follows:

  • Enabled: When SOD runs between <configurable> time (must be configured to run after 12:00 noon) and 12:00 midnight (00:00), the business date is set to the system’s current calendar date.

  • Disnabled: The system exhibits the legacy totals reset behavior, where the <configurable> time initiates the SOD and the business date increments to the next calendar date.
