Workstation Connectivity

Connection Attempt

On startup, the location’s API workstation attempts to connect to STS Gen2. If this connection fails, the workstation does not retry until the service host is restarted, either by restarting the Simphony POS application or the workstation itself. For workstations running Simphony 19.9 or later, additional resiliency improvements have been made: workstations and cloud components can now function during OIDC outages. Previously, if a power outage or workstation restart occurred while OIDC was unavailable, requests could not be processed. With these enhancements, the system continues to process requests even if OIDC is down during a restart.

Constant Ping Requests

Once the Simphony service host starts and establishes a connection, the location continuously sends ping requests to the Simphony enterprise to verify that the connection remains active. Likewise, the Simphony enterprise sends regular ping requests to the location for the same purpose. If the connection is dropped, both the Simphony enterprise and the location automatically attempt to re-establish it.
