Twisted Pair

The following Oracle MICROS devices utilize twisted pair Ethernet cabling:

  • Point of Sale workstations
  • Kitchen Display Systems
  • Receipt printers
  • Kitchen order printers

Consider the following factors:

  • Interference from nearby electrical equipment
  • Whether Ethernet cabling is shielded or unshielded
  • The distance of Ethernet cable runs

Oracle MICROS Expectations

  • Properly terminate Ethernet cables.
  • Use Category 6 Ethernet cable for final network runs within the building.
  • Route Ethernet cables away from devices that generate significant electrical interference.

Fiber Optic

Use fiber optic cable for:

  • Long network runs that exceed the recommended limits of standard Ethernet cable

  • Network connections between buildings

  • Network connections in environments where electrical interference may be a concern
