Check Out an Appointment

This topic describes how to use the Check Out workflow to follow steps specific to checking out a patient after an appointment has ended.

Note:

An appointment can be automatically checked out by the system if the Manage Appointment State Millennium Platform Operations job is configured. This moves the current day's appointments in an In Room or Checked In status to Checked Out at midnight of the same day. This process is based on the location's time zone.
The visit is also discharged with the following information:
  • Discharge date and time is set as the time when the checkout action took place.
  • Visit status is updated to Discharged.
  • Discharge disposition is set to Home.

Check Out Patient

To manually check out a patient:

  1. In Patient Tracker, locate the appointment to check out.

    Note:

    • You must select a location for appointments to be displayed. Additional filters include Appointment Type, Resource, Status, and Patient Name/DOB.
    • The system saves the last selected location and it is retained when you navigate away and back to Patient Tracker, including logging off and back on.
    • You can manually refresh Patient Tracker. Additionally, Patient Tracker automatically refreshes every five minutes, each time an action is taken, or when you navigate away and back.
  2. From the appropriate appointment, select Actions (…), then select Check Out. The appointment status is updated to Checked Out.
  3. Select Actions (…) and then select Book Again from Patient Tracker or Visit List to schedule another appointment for the patient with the same appointment type and details.

Schedule Follow Up

To schedule a follow-up appointment for a patient:
  1. Access Patient Tracker, then locate the appointment.
  2. Select the appointment, then select the patient's name. The patient chart is displayed. See Schedule an Appointment.
