Configuring Room Features 

A feature is a characteristic or attribute of the room which does not significantly affect the rate or the demand on the room. Room feature functionality makes it easier for you to search and assign rooms according to guest preferences. Room features configured here are also displayed as profile preferences (of type: room feature). See Preferences for more information.

You can think of a feature as being any attribute of the room for which specific availability does not need to be tracked. For example, room features can be rooms near or away from an elevator, rooms with accessibility facilities or rooms with a specific view. There may however be some cases where features need to be considered as a specific room type. If your property has a limited amount of rooms with an ocean view, for which a higher price is charged, then ocean view rooms would have their own room type (and room feature).

When the AI Room Assignment OPERA Control is active, the room features need to be mapped to multiple profile preferences as applicable using the Mapped Preference Codes column. These are taken into consideration by the AI Room Assignment procedure during the room assignment process.

Once configured room features are selected on each room type and/or room. See Configuring Rooms for more details.

During check in or when pre-allocating rooms, OPERA Cloud can search for available rooms by room feature as well as by room type; with room feature, smoking and floor preferences defaulted from the reservation and/or profile.

Note:

Smoking and Floor are not configured as a room feature as there are separate, distinct preference types for these.

Adding Room Features

Note:

When the OPERA Multi-property Cross Reservation Cloud Service, new Room Features are created by selecting the Template tab. Once created, you can copy Room Feature codes to specific properties using the Copy action. See Copying Configuration Codes to Multiple Properties  for more information.

  1. From the Administration menu, select Inventory, select  Accommodation Management then select Room Features.

  2. Click New and enter the following details:
    1. Code: Enter a code for the room feature.

    2. Description: Enter a description of the room feature.

    3. Sequence: Enter a number that controls the position of this code in listings. Codes without a sequence number assigned are listed in alphabetical order following codes with a sequence assigned.

    4. Mapped Preferences: Click to select one or more preferences from the list to map to the room feature (Available when the AI Room Assignment OPERA Control is active). 

    5. Global: Select the make the room feature available in all properties. (Available in the template tab when the OPERA Multi-property Cross Reservation Cloud Service is active).

  3. Click Save or Save and Continue to add another.

Editing Room Features

  1. From the Administration menu, select Inventory, select  Accommodation Management then select Room Features.

  2. Enter search criteria and click Search.

  3. Select the Room Feature, click the vertical ellipsis Actions menu and select Edit.

  4. Update details.

  5. Click Save.

Deleting Room Features

  1. From the Administration menu, select Inventory, select  Accommodation Management then select Room Features.

  2. Enter search criteria and click Search.

  3. Select the Room Feature, click the vertical ellipsis Actions menu and select Delete.

  4. Click Delete to confirm.
