Remove the FIM, Temperature Sensor, and Disk Backplane Data and Power Cables

  1. Prepare the server for service.
    1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
    2. Extend the server to the maintenance position.
    3. Attach an antistatic wrist strap to your wrist, and then to a metal area on the chassis.
    4. Remove the server top cover.
  2. Remove the disk backplane power cable.
    1. Disconnect the disk backplane power cable from the motherboard by pressing the release latch on the side of the cable connector and pulling out the connector [1].
    2. Disconnect the disk backplane power cable from the disk backplane by pressing the release latch on the side of the cable connector and pulling out the connector [2].

Figure showing how to remove the power, FIM, temperature sensor, and disk backplane data cables.
  3. Remove the temperature sensor cable.
    1. Remove the FIM from the server.
    2. Disconnect the temperature sensor cable from the disk backplane by pulling the cable from the connector [3].

      Note:

To ease extraction, you might need to disconnect the disk backplane data cable from the disk backplane before disconnecting this cable.
    3. Remove the temperature sensor and cable from the FIM housing, then pull the cable and sensor through the left-front chassis sidewall [4].
  4. Remove the FIM cable.
    1. Remove the FIM from the server.
    2. Disconnect the FIM cable from the FIM by pulling the cable from the connector [5].
    3. Eject the FIM cable from the motherboard by pulling the cable from the connector [6].

      Note:

To ease extraction, you might need to disconnect the disk backplane data cable from the motherboard before disconnecting this cable.
  5. Remove the disk backplane data cable.
    1. Eject the disk backplane data cable from the disk backplane by opening both side latches on the connector [7].
    2. Eject the disk backplane data cable from the motherboard by opening both side latches on the connector [8].
